  1. The TWTM recommends Critical Thinking books one and two before starting Traditional Logic, but could The Fallacy Detective and The Thinking Toolbox be used instead? Has anyone tried this? TIA!
  2. We are about to take the plunge and order Omnibus II. My son read the preview online and is very excited. Can anyone tell me which books are scheduled first? Some of the primary and secondary books can be found at our Public Library, but I want to make sure we have the ones we will need at the beginning, so we can start right away. Thanks!
  3. I am reading older math threads and keep on seeing references to AoPS math. Just wondering what curriculum it is. TIA!
  4. Hi all, A little background; we just finished ancients (done the Well-Trained Mind way). My son is starting his eighth grade year and really enjoys the study of History. He also loves to read and likes apologetics. He read the info. on Omnibus II and would like to try it this year, but I have questions before we take the plunge! TIA 1. Is it necessary to do Omnibus I before starting on II? 2. Does Omnibus II use a particular history spine? I read through some of the threads on here and looked on their website, but still cannot figure it out. If they do not use a history spine would adding MOH vol.2 to Omnibus II be a bit much? He really enjoyed MOH Ancients, and we would not do the activities included, just schedule the chapter readings. 3. We are not five-point Calvinists. Is the entire curriculum extremely heavy on the reformed POV, or does it allow for different views on the issue? Thanks,
  5. We have enjoyed all four volumes of SOTW immensely and I credit them with developing in my eldest son a love for history but now that he is entering the logic stage I feel like I need the extra help TOG offers. I CANNOT keep up with what he is reading (We are currently in Ancients) so those dialectic discussion outlines would be a godsend! Yes, the time has come to move on. sniff, sniff.....While searching on the TOG updated booklist I noticed my library has a few of the out of print books but not the newer versions. Does anyone know if you can access the week plan pages or worksheets of the out of print books once you purchase the TOG year 2 DE (newer version)? For example my library does not have a copy of the new book Renaissance Art but it does have a copy of Renaissance so it would be nice to be able to use that instead. Thanks!
  6. My dad watched the documentary and was motivated enough to try it. He juiced for three weeks and lost a total of thirty pounds . His problems with hypertension disappeared and so did his sleep apnea. He now has loads of energy and looks ten years younger. I would not have believed it had I not seen it with my own two eyes! It is crazy I tell ya.:D
  7. First I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to share your experiences with me and for giving such great advice. I am happy to report that the scan was successfully completed so no rescheduling is needed. When we arrived they took him on a tour of the room and then told him to choose from country, rap or rock music to help drown out the awful noise of the machine. He replied that he preferred classical music and wanted to know if that was an option:tongue_smilie:! Seriously? It was hilarious! The nurse just chuckled and the request was granted. He was perfectly still throughout the entire test and acted so bravely.... He shook with relief for several minutes after the test was over though and that is when I realized how truly apprehensive he had been about the whole experience. We should receive the results on Wednesday. Please keep our family in your prayers and thanks again for all your help.
  8. Thank you for sharing such great advice along with your experiences, I feel calmer already :). Worry has made the last few days seem endless but we trust that God is in control. The MRI is of the brain only and we were told that if he is not able to hold still they will reschedule for an MRI under sedation. I am off to show him pictures of the machine online and will also have him practice being still on the couch. I plan on arriving early and hope they will let him see the machine beforehand. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.
  9. My son, who is eight yrs old, will be going in for an MRI today at 12:30. He has been having daily headaches so the scan will be done to rule out any type of brain tumor or growth. We were given the option of having him undergo the test fully sedated but opted to try doing it with him awake (seems safer?). Now I am a nervous wreck and am wondering if it was the right decision... Has anyone had a child undergo a similar test without sedation? If so, what did you do to help them remain calm during the procedure? Thanks!
  10. We switched to All About Spelling about a year ago and I am seeing great results, especially from my oldest who is not a natural speller.
  11. My eight year old currently writes out one narration from SOTW a week and one for his My Reading Section from Lit. He also does WWE 4x a week as outlined in the WWE 2 workbook. How much more writing should he be doing? I just read TWTM and it seems to recommend dictation 3x a week but WWE 2 only has it twice a week. Do I have to add another day of dictation to what we are already doing? I don't want to overburden him! Please help..:001_smile:
  12. :iagree: wholeheartedly with this. I feel so sorry for the children that were victimized.... We must keep them in our prayers.
  13. Kristen, The timeline book is a wonderful idea. Your friend did a great job with hers! I finally finished the timeline and will be posting pictures on my blog tomorrow. Thanks for trying to help me out.:001_smile:
