  1. I believe that all the books listed in the old version are the same as in the new version - except for the the traditional logic books which can be found at http://www.memoriapress.com. The other books in the older edition can be found at http://www.criticalthinking.com/index.jsp and http://www.canonpress.org/shop/. Blessings Zoraida
  2. I read this book and found it to be a fun and suspenseful read. I liked the whole book until the last couple of pages when I found out something about why one of the characters was alway sleeping and feeling sleepy. I thought the reason was totally ridiculous but than this is a kids novel and I got over the reason quickly. I'll be looking forward to reading the sequel myself. Also, if your children have ever read the Lemony Snickett books - The Secret Benedict society would be very similiar to the LS seiries. Blessings Zoraida
  3. See if your library has a copy of The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Than supplement this book with Jane Eyre. Your son will problably love The Eyre Affair. This is a sci/fi mystery novel that takes place in an alternate universe very similiar to our own. In this world the police force has a literary detective department where the police solve literary crimes. In this book an evil guy steals a machine that allows him to jump into books. He jumps into Jane Eyre and kidnaps her. So its up to the literary department to find the evil guy and to find Jane Eyre so that they can put her back into her book. Jasper Fforde has written about five books in this series which all involve a literary plot line. His main detective is a lady named Thursday Next (love that name). Another book in the series is First Among Sequels where an evil guy takes books and makes them into reality book shows. Pride and Prejudice becomes the reality show The Bennets. Jasper Fforde also has another series that takes place in nursury land. In this series the main detective is Jack Spratt and his side kick Mary Mary Quite Contrary. In the first book of the series The Big Over Easy - Jack has to solve the mystery of Humpty Dumpty's death. Was it suicide or did someone push him off his wall. All of Jasper Fforde's books are fun quick reads and are suitable for young adults. Blessings Zoraida
  4. For us we incorporate our Faith throughout the entire day. 1. At breakfast we say a grace before our meal and after our meal. 2. We attend 8:00 daily Mass at church 3. When we arrive home, I always have the kids begin with their religion assignments - study and memorize their Catechisms, Bible history, and read a chapter from a biography about the Saints. 4. 12:00 pray the Angelus before lunch, say grace before and after meal. 5. 4:00 at end of school pray The Act of Contrition 6. Supper - say a grace before and after supper. 7. 9:00 pray the rosary together as a family before bedtime. Blessings Zoraida
  5. I am a Catholic and I know that they have publicly made statements against the Catholic church so to me that is a form of racism. I spent 13 years in a Catholic school taught by Franciscan Nuns. We were always taught by the sisters that Protestants were our close cousins and that we should always respect their religion. I have always kept this attitude and respected my Protestant neighbors. When Pope Benedict was visiting here a few weeks ago - he was also promoting the same message. We are all Christians and should promote a unity among the different Christian churches. Blessings Zoraida
  6. My son read the entire series according to publication date. Then he found the following on the official Redwall site: The books were written out of chronological order, so the events don't all occur in order if you read them in the order in which they were published. Here is the chronological order: Lord Brocktree Martin The Warrior Mossflower The Legend of Luke Outcast of Redwall Mariel of Redwall The Bellmaker Salamandastron Redwall Mattimeo The Pearls of Lutra The Long Patrol Marlfox Taggerung Triss Loamhedge Rakkety Tam High Rhulain My son than went back and read the series in the above order. He said it was cooler to read the series this way to see how the historical events built upon each other. I read the first two books Redwall and Mossflower and really enjoyed them. Blessings Zoraida
  7. I have a book recommendation for you. Nick Hornby's How to Be Good. It's all about a wife's struggle with her husband who has decided to become perfectly good and nice all the time. I just recently read this and found it to be quite a humorous read. The book was given mixed reviews at Amazon but I really enjoyed it. Blessings Zoraida
  8. The folks at CNET.com says that GMAIL is now the top rated mail service. Plus I don't think you can go wrong with anything that has to do with Google. Another Google feature you might like to look into is their Google Docs. You can sign up for their free account and use their word processing and spreadsheet features on any computer at anytime. I like this feature because I like to keep booklists on Googel Docs. If I'm at the library and forgot to bring my library list with me, I can use one of the library computers and log into my Google Doc. account and print up my library list. Blessings Zoraida
  9. It might be your browser. I use Firefox. Every so often I will change the theme of my FireFox browser. About two weeks ago I wanted to take a look in one of the books at Amazon and was running into the same problem. I tried two of my other browsers IE and Opera and was having the same problem. On Sunday I decided to change the theme on my Firefox browser. Later that afternoon I was on Amazon and used the search inside features and it worked. Out of curiosity, I changed my Firefox theme back to the previous theme and went back to Amazon and it didn't work. So if your using a theme feature on your browser and changed it lately - this might be the problem. Blessings Zoraida
  10. We over estimated and didn't receive the amount we thought we would receive. 1,200 filing jointly plus 300.00 for each child (4 children). We were 300.00 short only because we included our 18 year old son in the estimate and the cutting off point is 17 for children. Blessings Zoraida
  11. My son kept talking about this series and I decided to read them thinking I wouldn't like them. Well it turns out that I really enjoyed them. Another series that my son got me involed in are The Maximum Ride books by James Patterson which would be in the same genre as the Extra books. I read the first two books in a weekend. My son is waiting to get the third book from the library but there is a long waiting list. Blessings Zoraida
  12. Oops! I ment to mention that we didn't have our fees taken out of our refund check. The fee was taken out of our checking account. Blessings Zoraida
  13. We used Turbo Tax and our money was direct deposited last Friday. Blessings Zoraida.
  14. Thank you for posting this question. I was looking at this yesterday and was wondering the same thing. Blessings Zoraida
  15. I would have used TWTM also and incorporated a little bit of the Catholic Faith in the history courses. I would also stay away from any P.E. coach who taught history. Blessings Zoraida
  16. I don't really have any suggestions for a cd. We incorporate the chanting daily when we do our flashcard drills. Have you purchased or looked at LL yet. They have vocabulary sheets with the chants included. You cut these out and paste on note cards and use to review daily. Blessings Zoraida
  17. I'm using LL with two of my youngest children. We are loving it. At first I was hesitant to buy the program because of all the printing. But it hasn't been a problem. I usually print out one lesson a week or every other week. I also think the program is worth the 50.00 I paid for. Blessings Zoraida
  18. I used this with my older children and really, really, really liked this program. We successfuly completed all three levels. It is easy to use following the lesson plans. I would highly recommend the DVD's that comes with it. You, the parent are required to set up your own notebooks along with your children and Mrs. Beers suggests that the parent be at least two or three days ahead of the student. I wouldn't recommend this program for a student who didn't like to write. There is a large amount of copy work - mostly writing out grammar rules and declining. But over all it is a good program. Blessings Zoraida
  19. Watch the older version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and than watch the newer version and see which one the kids like best. I was pleased that the kids liked the older Gene Wilder version (since this is my favorite) than the horrible remake with Johnny Depp. Blesssings Zoraida
  20. I would LOVE to be a home-body but it just doesn't work out around here. So I try to stick to a schedule which makes life less hectic. Sundays: Attend 8:00 a.m. Mass. Go to Wal Mart Super Center after church to by weeks grocery's and other shopping. Tuesdays: Our Catholic homeschool group hold band, drama, debate, and art classes at our church religous education building on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:00. I drop the kids off at 3:00 and my husband picks them up at 5:00 on his way home from work. Wednesdays: 6:00 to 7:30 - drop the kids off at church for CCD classes. Sometimes I will stay and go to the church chapel with other mothers to pray the rosary. If I don't stay, I'll go home and my husband picks the kids up at 7:30. Thursdays: 3:00 drop the kids off at homeschool group. Husband picks them up at 5:00. Saturday: Always library day. Visit our local farm to market stands and garden center after library.Sometimes we will go to the Mall and eat lunch at the food court. Main reason for going to the mall is to visit Barnes and Nobles! Blessings Zoraida
  21. For those of you who are fans of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, if you have children under the age of 13, I would not let them watch this movie. The scenes where Sweeny kills his victims in the barber chair is way over done and there was just too much blood. The last part where Sweeny shoves Mrs. Lovett into the oven would be quite scary for young children. But for those of you who have seen highschool, college, or Broadway versions with your teens will love this movie. The music was beautiful, the visuals were wonderful and boy can Johnny Depp sing!!! Over all it was a good movie and kept to the Broadway storyline but don't let young children see this movie. I would not consider it a musical for the whole family. Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George would be better musicals for the whole family. Both of these are available on DVD Blessings Zoraida
  22. If you are familiar with Nancy Pearl - Seattle's favorite librarian, she once told a caller on npr that she arranges all of her books alphabetically by author. She has fiction and non-fiction mixed all together. Blessings Zoraida
  23. I arrange my fiction by author. I use to have a problem with arrangeing my non-fiction. To solve the non-fiction problem, I now use librarything.com to list my non-fiction books. They have the option to use The Library of Congress system or the Dewey Decimal system. I prefer the Dewey Decimal system. Everytime I get a new non-fiction, I go to Librarything. com and put in the new book and click on th DD button to see where to place my new non-fiction on my bookcase. Blessings Zoraida
  24. Oh okay. I'm surprised Google didn't have anything special today because they are usually good with holiday and special occasion themes. Here's a question though - This weekend I went to Google and their homepage was completely black. I don't know if it was my computer making the page black or whether Google intentionaly made their page black. My son suggested it was black because someone had died. Did anyone else have a black page when they used Google. If so what was that all about? Blessings Zoraida
  25. Okay, I'm slow today. I went to google and I'm not getting it. My son says he thinks they changed the L to green when its usually red? Blessings Zoraida
