  1. As Salaam Alaikum, The only thing that I know of is al-duha http://www.ad-duha.org/ and they used to combine it with calvert. I am so envious of programs like CLE because it seems very thorough and religious at the same time. Peace. Please keep the board posted if you find anything.
  2. Hi, We use Science 1 and enjoy it very much. I bought it mainly for my oldest son but my two younger sons partcipate and are retaining information very well. It is VERY scripted which I appreciate since I need lots of hand holding to get science done. I like how everything is included and it is laid out very well. I plan to do the entire series.
  3. We do. Mainly math and we finish whatever didn't get finished during the week. It really works out very well for us.
  4. We get ours from Trader Joes in the frozen food section.
  5. As Salaam Alaikum, I really want to know more about this program as well. I keep hearing that it is dry but still overall good. I want to make sure all of my basis are covered(espicially with grades5-8) so I keep thinking about Calvert. My only concern is that if you have a child that is working 2 levels a head in one subject and 3 levels ahead in another subject how does one adjust to that with Calvert. It doesn't seem like you can pick and choose grade levels based on subjects. But still I keep thinking maybe if I just get it I could add to it with supplements? Peace, Candace
  6. 1. Run HOT shower and burn incense. 2. Change his diet. More fruits and veggies. Less meat.
  7. Hi, We are doing Mcruffy 3rd right now. I plan on starting Saxon 5/4 in the fall.
  8. Here is what I am doing for K-3: Mcruffy 1st-4th with spectrum writing and write source for additional writing support. 4-6: I am thinking about using Saxon Hake Grammar and Writing. The Mosdos Literature Series looks very interesting.
  9. I use McRuffy and I love it. It is a all in one. It is easy to use and my children enjoy it.
  10. Mine is from one of my all time favorite hip hop songs called Umi Says by poet/rapper Mos Def.
  11. Hi, Can someone help me with this? I only really want to do the 2nd grade social studies section, do I have to buy the whole Oak Medow curriculum to get access to the it? Is there another way to do this, even the entire 2nd grade syllabis is 200.00!!! Thanks
  12. My son is the same way. He will be 7 in March. About a week ago he just did a spelling bee 1st thru 8th competing against each other. He came in 2nd place! He was EXTREMELY nervous. He kept saying "he would not win, or wasn't a good speller, or he didn't get a list so he would just do terrible!" I took the competition aspect out of the equation. I just kept telling him it was JUST an academic activity and he would probably make some new buddies. Plus, I told him this was a preparation to let us know what a spelling bee is and how it works, so we could spend the upcoming years preparing for Scripps. I just tried to make everything real casual and made him feel like it was kinda like a meet and greet. This relaxed him a great deal and he did great. He was as cool as a non-competitive cucumber!
  13. Thank you all for sharing. This is most responses I have ever had! I have a lot of reading do do. Thanks again!
  14. Thanks! I am going to check this out. I was just about to ask you in my thread "children who rarely get sick" what types of natural remedies/medicine do you use? This is what I want to transition to.
  15. Thank you all for sharing. I am going to implement some of things suggested. We will see what happens. Thanks again!
  16. Maybe I should layoff on keeping an extra clean house. I just get so nervous about people coming over and seeing all the dust bunnies, crumb, and fingerprints. Plus I HAVE to wipe the bathrooms down about 5 times a day since my boys are not quite sure shots for the toilet:glare:.
  17. I sooo don't like hearing this. I keep reading stuff about some natural concotion called nature's penicillin. It's full of garlic and onion. I really feel like trying that.It probably won't work :glare: I guess I will be taking care of sickies for a while.
  18. Hi to All! Does anyone here have chidren that rarely get sick? If so, what are you doing to keep it that way. Special vitamins, home remedies, germ free full body suits :D??? I am tired of all my children getting sick and passing it around in circles. They eat well, get enough sleep, wash hands, live in a clean house... you know the standard stuff to stay healthy, but I need something that really works. I need something to boost their immunity? Any ideas? Thanks, Candace
  19. SAXON USERS UNITE!!!!:D I'm sorry, I had to post this, I am probably the only one laughing! :001_smile: But seriously, I do appreciate everyone's insight. Warmest Regards, Candace
  20. Thanks for this! I was becoming a little disheartened with my choice. Thanks for sharing your experience. I really appreciate that. Warmest Regards, Candace
  21. Chika Chika Boom Boom All of my children LOVE this one!
  22. Ok, I was kinda scared to post cause usually I get the crazy eyes from people in real life when I talk about how we work. I would not say that he is mathy, its just that he gets it and we move on. Now when we do it, we do ALOT of it everyday(7 days a week) in many diffrent ways, so he is able to see how to apply it well. I had settled on Saxon just because he appreciates the format and I know it is a successful program but I will give the other programs a look. Thanks, Candace
  23. Hi to All, I'm wanted to know if an almost 7yo could be successful starting Saxon 5/4 if they know all the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Really I wanted to know if anyone had done something similar and it worked out ok. I am reading threads where some people post that you learn all the other things from grades 1st thru 3rd in saxon 5/4. We are about to start Mcruffy 3rd and I know that he will go through that in about 4 months like we did the other grade levels. So I figure why not just move on a get started. I know that this a reccommended using the Robinson Curriculum, so any thoughts or experiences doing this? I posted this on the curriculum board, but I wanted to get any additional thoughts on this board as well. Thanks, Candace
