  1. My son is very introverted. He has no problems doing online classes. He just finished his 11th grade as college PSEO students and earned 24 credits. Next school year he will continue PSEO. I think if he were a senior this year, he would definitely start college no matter what. He is motivated to continue with his study towards computer science major.
  2. I know people learn differently and online classes may be a torture. But then next year with more students applying for college, it will be more competitive. I also wonder what they can do if they take a year off because traveling and looking for jobs both are harder now.
  3. I have heard that some high school graduates this year are going to skip a year (gap year) due to the pandemic and go to college in fall of 2021. Are your dc doing this? Are they accepted by colleges already? Do colleges generally allow accepted students to delay a year? My son is going to graduate in 2021. I wonder how this year's graduates going to college in 2021 instead of 2020 will impact college acceptance since they do not have unlimited space for students. Thoughts?
  4. Thank you for sharing this. Australia is leading an independent probe into the origin of this novel coronavirus, backed by 116 countries. This is absolutely essential if we want to understand this virus more.
  5. If you plan US history for 10th grade, what will you use! I am still looking for ideas. Ds15 did Notgrass America the Beautiful for 6th and 7th grade. I have CLE 8th grade US history and the older edition Notgrass high school US history. I also have Hakim's A History of US, but probably won't use it.
  6. I read it last night and shared on Facebook. No one commented on Facebook, so I deleted it. I guess people do not want o think about this now. The point that schools only will do basic stuff is exactly what turned my son and me off. He goes to an expensive private school just for the community and the fun extra stuff. Now that the extras are gone, and it's back to screen and distance learning, there is no benefit for an outside school.
  7. Ds15 used Notgrass America the Beautiful for his middle school years, in 6th and 7th grade while my oldest son used CLE 8th grade US history for the first half and Notgrass high school US history second half. I also have all Joy Hakim's A Historyvof US. I am looking for a high school US history for ds15. He will bring have four heavy Potter's school online classes three of them honors level. He will do government class at co-op. He did 1/3 if world history in 9th grade. He can finish the textbook at home for the 1 credit world history or do a 1 credit US history. I am torn btw the two. I am open to do US high school if there is a good but not hard to get done curriculum.
  8. When you said "This American History", did you refer to History Odyssey' American History or another one? Can you clarify? I am curious. I am looking for a not too challenging US history for my 10th grade son. Thanks!
  9. Can you please elaborate? Have your used it as history curriculum? I saw the book on Amazon and don't know if there is a curriculum built on it.
  10. My son took Spanish 1 and 2 at TPS and likes them. After a year in private school taking g semester of Spanish 3 and then a semester of Latin 2, he is going back to TPS for Spanish 3. He said all the writing he can do now he learned at TPS.
  11. I don't know which teachers are better. He did take two classes, Journey through Narnia and the level after that. Then he took Elegant Esaay at co-op. Right now he is at a private school for 9th grade. The English teacher has not asked them to write any essays. So he is not challenged.
  12. Ds15 will take this class. I would like to see some reviews from people who have taken this class. Thanks!
  13. I am trying to enroll my son for 4 Potter's School classes. The English one is already waitlisting. Waiting to get Admin's approval to reopen my account since we dropped the classes last year to go to a private school. Homeschool online is more predictable for the next school year.
  14. Thanks for the link. I am sure things change a lot, but not as much as brick and mortar schools. So your state allows DE for 10th grade? That's so nice!
  15. I searched and didn't find a thread for "10th grade 2020". Would you mind sharing your 10th grader's plan for 2020-2021. Ds15 will do mostly Potter's School on line classes. He's taking Advanced Composition. 1x/week Precalculus (honors) 2x/week spanish 3 2x/week Chemistry (honors). 1x/week He will take government co-op class in person 2x/month. What do you think? Do your dc take mostly online classes?
  16. Ds15 decided to homeschool with Potter's school online classes after going to an expensive small private school near our home because of the unpredictable teaching mode of the school in the fall. The school, as many schools in other states, switched to distance learning with some online features in late March after two weeks of extended spring break. He misses seeing his classmates, but knowing it will be NOT normal in the fall, doing homeschool is more stable and of better quality. He has done Potter's school online Spanish 1 and 2, English for 7th and 8th grade. So going back to Potter's school feels natural and easy for transition. He will take Potter's School Advanced Compostion 4/5, Precalculus, Spanish 3, and honors chemistry. If your dc have done some of these classes, can you please share your experience? Math and Spanish will be twice a week. So this means 6 90-minute live online classes a week. What do your guys think? I feel very sad that he lost the sense of community at the private school due to the virus. He will go back to our homeschool co-op for government class that meets twice a month. Thank you for reading and please share your D.C.'s Potter's School or other online class experience.
  17. OP again😂😂😂 My son changed his mind. He is willing to do online homeschool because the two extracurricular activities he enjoyed very much would be the first things to go with distance learning his school does. Video meetings are never the same. Schools will be struggling with teaching the most basics with e-learning, at least in the fall semester. He prefers homeschool online classes if brick and mortar schools have to do distance learning again in the fall. And with a price tag of five digits (me having no income due to loss of my non essential very part time job) and not getting the community feeling which comes with physically being in school that my son craves, it is not worth it. I feel sad, but it is what it is.
  18. OP here. Update: my son does not want to go back to homeschooling online classes because he feels so isolated doing lessons all alone at home. He prefers to continue with the private school. Since dh still has a stable IT job and we can afford to pay the tuition, we will let him continue with this school. I don't think teenagers are good with disinfecting and hand washing. And with Type 1 Diabetes, he is more at risk (10% death) if he contracts SARS-COV-2 virus. But his mental health is very important. He seriously felt very lonely and isolated at home in 8th grade. He was happy when he went to school every day last fall. I hope schools will be somewhat normal with social distancing in the fall. Thanks for contributing to this post. I appreciate it very much! ❤️❤️🌹🌹
  19. Thanks for sharing. I wonder how thorough previous viruses were investigated. Unless this SARS-Cov-2 virus is thoroughly investigated other than only assuming it is from bats, we can expect COVID-more-numbers and other types of viruses from now on. As a person living in China for the first 30 years of my life, I think the world needs to get INTO Wuhan to investigate. However, China does not allow it. And I don't understand why the world lets China get away with this.
  20. A few cities in China bordering Russia have been hotspots now from imported cases.
  21. Has anyone seen this news? A dog in North Carolina tested positive.
  22. Ds15 will take Bridge to AP Calculus 1 in the summer. Then he will take AP European history, AP calculus 1 and AP chemistry. He took chemistry with Grandpa during elementary years. He is very motivated.
