Ds14 has been homeschooled all the way. In recent few months, he has been feeling more and more miserable mostly about feeling isolated and being home by himself a lot while I drive his older brother to outside classes. He also wants to have direct instruction in all subjects daily. So we have arrived to the point that he needs to go to outside school. We looked at a public school and will visit a private school in two days. He will most likely go to the private school 0.7 miles away. Sincd it is very expensive, I am wondering if any of you have sent your dc to a private school and then pull them out in order to go to on campus PSEO or DE. We have many colleges nearby that offer PSEO. Ds16 has been homeschooled all the way and is accepted to attend Concordia University in St. Paul. I wonder how to pull a private or public schooler out in order to send him to PSEO. Do I need the school's permission to do this? Or is it my right to just pull him? Thanks for listening and hope to hear your experience about this if you've done it.

I just ordered Complete Guide to ACT English by Erica Meltrer and For the Love of ACT science based on the good Amazon reviews. I would like recommendations for ACT math prep books. There's this College Pand's ACT math that I hesitate to get now. If you have used math ACT books that improved scores a lot, please recommend them here. I like to have separate subject prep books. Ds will also use prep books with practice tests to get the full tests for time management practice. He would like to take ACT in September. Thanks!

How do your D.C. Prep for ACT?
JadeOrchidSong posted a topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Can you share your D.C.'s ACT prep experience? Ds took PreACT last April as a 9th grader. He will take PreAct again in a week. I just want him to keep having the testing experience and also see if he has improved on his math score. He will take ACT next spring in his junior year. I am gathering info about how to prep for it. I signed him up for TPS fall semester ACT prep but then dropped it because I think I can probably guide him through this myself. -
How did your dc prep for ACT? I am gathering some ideas to help ds16. He will take PreAct on April 19 for the second time. I am just curious to see ow much he can improve on his math. He will take ACT next spring as a junior.

Hi, I wan enjoying a 60 question ACT math practice test and finished almost 50 when I accidentally x the website. It has immediate correct or incorrect feedback for each question and 'try again" button as well as show answer. I learned some new math concept thanks to the detailed explanation. I serached in vain to find it again lady night and this morning. Ug! If you have used a test website like this, can you share it? I am sure mine is not the only one that does the immediate feedback and explanation. Thanks for helping me!

Ds16 will apply for the U of MN PSEO dual enrollment. A friend suggests that we do a descriptive sheet of the courses taken along with the transcript. Have you done this? What do you include in it? If you don't mind, can I see a sample of your sheet? Thanks! The deadline is April 15. So I will rush to have this done and hand deliver the material since it's only two miles from my home.

Ds14 took TPS English 1 Journey Through Narnia in 6th grade. He did very well. Then for 7th grade, he took English 2 with lots of different lit genres, the first quarter devoted to poetry. He did well until he was diagnosed with T1D at the beginning of second semester. So I asked to have him audit the class ad do as many assignments as he could. To this day, he credits his writing skills to TPS writing classes. For his 8th grade, he is taking Elegant Essay at our Homeschool co op. For ninth grade he will do advanced speech at co op. For tenth, he will go back to TPS for its well known Advanced Composition. I highly recommend TPS writing.

College Visit Report - St. Olaf, Carleton, and Macalester
JadeOrchidSong replied to Arch at Home's topic in The College Board
Hi, my duh brought my ds16 to visit St Olaf last Friday. Ds really likes it. However, when we read the brochure, we found that only 6 PSEO credits can transfer. I read that your tour guide had a lot credits transferred, I would love to know it is true. It would be great because ds will do PSEO for his junior and senior years and will have 16 classes he will dual enroll for. That is a lot of college classes. We do hope St Olaf will allow him to let these credits transfer and count so that it will take off at least one year of college time. -
Hi, I registered ds16 for the online TPS ACT prep class for fall of 2019. I wonder if anyone has used this course and if you recommend it. Is there a better way to prep than doing this online course? I am not very sure if ds16 needs it, or if it is better to do it without a class. Thoughts? Please share your successful paul ACT prep methods.

I found some good used copy on Amazon. I will use it for my 9th grade over two years. Would you be willing to share your writing assignment topics with me? -
Has anyone taken Becki Kelly's Spanish 3 at TPS? Reviews? Thanks!

Sons are 16 and 14. With dual enrollment, the boys have more opportunities to develop friendships and maybe start to have a girlfriend. We went brought Passage to Purity a few years ago with them. Now birth control is more relevant. Of course we'd love them to save sex for marriage, but one can't control what may happen. With that said, I would like some teen birth control YouTube video or book recommendations on this topic, practical not fluff kind. We are Christians by the way. Thanks a lot!

Online Chemistry teacher recommendations
JadeOrchidSong replied to Homemama2's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Ds16 is taking chemistry with a local Homeschool class. It sounds like none of the students likes the class. The text they use is Wile's new edition chemistry.
