  1. Has anyone even seen this product? It is too new for anyone to have used, I think. And, it is online but not in the printed catalogue yet. I have always been a devoted fan of Rod and Staff. But, if I could do it all over again, I'd focus on writing and Latin more and cover English grammar more succinctly. Also, I would skip the writing component, where possible, since I'd use IEW. I'd just like to discuss this with someone. Anyone?
  2. There is always discussion about skipping English grammar if Latin is being covered. Has anyone seen the new Memoria Press's new "English Grammar for the Grammar Stage"? Does this look like a way to condense what you need to know when focusing on Latin in the pre-high school years? Could this book be covered each year? Has anyone thought about this? I am beyond this, but wandering about advising others. Thanks,
  3. Bump... The funny thing is, ds and dd don't even know which book I'm referring to! But I am nuts for picture books, I want it for our collection.
  4. The animals (of the forest) are quarreling over who is the 'King of the Beasts' or who is in charge. After progressive attempts from various animals to claim the title, a woodsman/bully says that he deserves it. The climax arrives with the woodsman's (small) mother arriving and telling him to stop bothering the animals and get to work...or some such admonition. Upon her arrival, he changes from a big strong guy into an obedient crybaby. Sound familiar to anyone? We read it from the library in the early 2000's and the drawings are clear and colorful cartoonish on white background, I believe. Thank you,
  5. Here's something I just found that looks like a great resource for all historical time frames and then some. http://www.teachwithmovies.org/index.html HTH,
  6. Thanks for all the responses so far. I think that I was expecting to know one exact way to punctuate this sentence with commas. Given the diversity of your answers, maybe I was being too hard on myself!:) I guess comma usage is more subjective than I thought! My ds says that in SWCC-B Mr. Pudewa says that his Canadian teacher said that American writers use way too many commas! I want to steer ds in a consistent direction. It depends on the evaluator doesn't it? Thanks,
  7. I just need to settle my brain from all I am reading in Blue Book, Fix-It, and my TWSS manual! . In essence, this sentence should be easy to edit for comma use, (I have gone through Rod & Staff, TWSS, and Fix-It after all!) but all that I've been learning from Fix-It and about sentence openers from IEW and the like have me all confused:blush:and befuddled! Here is an example sentence that gets me second guessing myself: "Eventually he enrolled at California State University and since it did not have a film school he majored in English" All I've learned about editing (from IEW) has me thinking this way: Eventually, he enrolled at California State University, and, since it did not have a film school, he majored in English. It seems like too many commas! I was using the IEW recommended comma use of "adverb opener-comma-main clause-comma-cc-dependent clause-comma-main clause." I want to see if I am on the right track or if sometimes it's ok to leave out commas to give the poor punctuation marks a break! Thank you,
  8. I have come to understand (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Continuation Courses are built upon one another and can be covered one after another. It is the Student Writing Intensive (SWI-a,b,or c) that are only done once. Of course, many never do the SWICC's, but ds and I have really liked Andrew Pudewa teaching and really see the beauty of the courses in our situation. Again, I am curious about the SWICC-C in general, and, specifically, if the essay portion of it will be a nice addition to EE - giving more practice in what EE will introduce. Thank you,
  9. I'm thinking of using Elegant Essay over the rest of this year(9th) and doing SWCC-C next year(10th) Ds has finished SWCC-b (mostly) this year. Ds doesn't have a lot of writing experience (other than IEW swi-b and the cc) and I want him to have a variety of experience b/f we proceed to HEI. How does the continuation course's coverage of the essay compare to the elegant essay? Will it be redundant? A good extension? Can you share any experience you've had with SWCC-c? Thank you!
  10. :lurk5:I am checking on any of these "life skills" books by Christian Light Publications. They are recommended in the WTM in Chap. 35 "The Kitchen-Table School: Why Home-Educate" under the heading "Resources for Practical Skills" and I would like to use one or more of them for ds. I've had this page dog-eared for years and now we're at a point to use them. (My, how the years fly!:))They are heftier books than I imagined though, and I am wondering how easy they are to implement, etc. Thanks!
  11. I only use paypal with cc - not a checking acct. Can I transfer money to my cc linked with Paypal or can they cut me a check? I want to sell something and get the money right away. I usually wait to use it toward something I need to buy using paypal since I didn't know how to get the money. Thank You,
  12. Thanks for the link and the film ideas. DS will be 16 or 17 when he does this. Is the whole idea too "un-wtm-ish" ?
  13. Ds is interested in WWII primarily. I thought to do a focus on modern wars/WWII for our last history cycle. Any ideas or resources that you can lend? I like to cover History TWTM way generally. Thanks!
  14. I really used the suggestions from a former "Hits and Misses" thread to round out our Christmas gifts. Thanks for suggestions from the past. These were suggested and were hits here: Rocket Balloon Launcher for both Book "Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction" for ds, 14 (He has made "weapons" non stop for days!) "Baby Cakes" mini donut maker for dd, 12 "The Mary Frances Sewing Book" for dd Book "Founding Gardeners" for dh
  15. DH is (as always) a wonder problem solver! THanks for all the help!
  16. DH is cutting the bristles on the round brush and trying not to cut her hair...much. She has the brush really wrapped up in hair! Thanks for the suggestions...he's keeping at it!
  17. Our dd's hair (waist length) is tangled in a brush to the scalp on one side. Dh is trying to untangle and not getting anywhere. Conditioner? Any advice is appreciated. Blessings
  18. I'm thinking of using this for ds sometime in high school. It is recommended in the wtm. The Author is Jack Landers. Thank you!
  19. This is what Andrew Pudewa from IEW has to say about that. I found this relieving since we have always been a super read aloud family. http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/files/1_myth2_truths.pdf
