  1. Its a great site! I am using it for all of my kids. Once babies coming in July...it may be all we do for a while. :)
  2. Click "Getting Ready 1" ....think that's what it says. If your dd doesn't know letter sounds, start at Day 1. Super easy and quick to do. :) I was already working thru MFW1st when I found it, so we started on third option like Day 172.
  3. We are using what you are planning minus AAS1-2 and subbing in http://allinonehomeschool.com/ That combo seems to be increasing reading confidence. I am using it right now with dd6 and ds8 (needed to restart reading due to lack of confidence so I added him in with dd6) Its working :)
  4. I am struggling right now with dd 5th gr and ds 7th gr. Taking notes!
  5. Working thru this time frame next year with 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 8th graders....plus 4 little tag alongs.
  6. I would maybe look at trying MFW1st at a slower pace.
  7. Either way will be great. We started year 2 and are now finishing year 3. Its been great. We r doing year 4 next year. We really enjoy TOG and plan on sticking with it long term.
  8. Taking notes...only for twins due in July. Its a way off but I'm already freaking! Lol
  9. Irish Soda Bread Ingredients: 2 cups white flour 2 cups whole wheat flour ½ cup sugar 2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 4 tbsp. butter 1 cup raisins 1½ cups buttermilk Directions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Cut in the butter until it is pea-sized. Stir in the raisins and buttermilk. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead 1 minute, and shape into a disk. Cut an “X†in the top and bake on a greased baking sheet for 45 to 50 minutes.
  10. Public schools and charters will only pay or reimburse secular materials. I bet SL would be willing to sell additional items to individual families and they would pay that out of pocket. Honestly...I don't have a problem with it.
  11. SOTW AG is worth buying. :) even your younger guys can use color sheets in the student pages.
  12. I clicked too early. :p I haven't used other pieces at all yet.
  13. I got a whole set cheap off ebay. I have only used teachers guide and student kits (which I purchased separately) Pattern blocks and c rods r nice no matter what curriculum you r using.
  14. Documentaries saved our Year 1 (not with TOG at time, but have now used TOG 2, 3 and will be using 4 next year). Also some hands on activities and field trips. Set up a dig. So see a mummy at the museum. Do a camping trip this summer for a few days to see what it would feel like to "live off the land". We also tied in Biology and animal studies. Really looked into disease and hygiene. How animals were used to help build society. Stuff like that. :)
  15. Year 3 may be easier to condense, otherwise I would just pick what you want to learn out of each week and skip the rest. They will all be back in that time period again. :)
  16. I love SL selections, but have never had success using it as written. Not sure why. I like looking back at the IG. Something just doesn't stick for me. I have been gifted some CORES and still use them....even notes from the IG, just not as written for a year. Some of my IG's are OLD! Like late 90's and early 2000's :)
  17. I do NOT use MFW book basket ideas. I use what I have here. We do history readings and literaturee readings from TOG. Our book basket is then filled with books from my house (I hate going to the library as I always loose a book or return late :p ) My ds8 really needed extra help with reading, so he is using MFW 1st for Bible and Reading. We use HOD beyond for science, spelling, storytime, art, poetry, math with SM and MUS etc Full right side and a couple boxes on left. We skip history and tie it into out tog readings instead which has been super easy! Sounds like a pain in the butt, but its working! For my older, I actually have a chart of SL books that are matched to our TOG weeks. I use them as a book basket for older kids and sometimes read alouds for little ones.
  18. We use MFW1st right now with books from TOG (older ones are doing TOG) and some SL books. I think it can totally be done. MFW is our CORE and TOG/SL is our add in. For a disclaimer, I LOVE curriculum and own many different ones. My dd3 uses HOD. :p I have problems!
