  1. I have seen lots of recommendations for BJU science for 6th and 7th grade but was wondering if anyone has used it for 4th grade? We use MFW which has science and I like their approach but my son loves science and would like more.
  2. Thanks for sharing this. Great idea!
  3. So, after Level 7 that's it. They will be finished with spelling (needing an actual program)?
  4. We are not there yet, but I was wondering when they complete Level 6 does that mean they are done with spelling forever or do you have to switch to a different program? Thanks!
  5. If anyone uses this, I saw Rainbow Resource is having 20% off today only.
  6. I did not read all of the replies so if this was already posted sorry for the duplicate. This thread is nothing but FREE CURRICULUM (lots of links divided by subject)
  7. Every penny! You can get a program called Parallels (?) that can open windows based programs so you could still use HST.
  8. :iagree::iagree::iagree: I Just listened to it yesterday! It was SO helpful!
  9. What level did you switch from and how was the transition? I'm switching my dd who is only in Alpha now (it is just not working for her) but would like to switch ds next year when he would be in Delta only because of the cost. Would this work in your opinion? Thank you!
  10. Yes thank you:001_smile: I couldn't find that info.
  11. Should a child be reading or what level was your dc reading?
  12. Thank you. She did say it looked fun when we watched the preview of the online course. They seem to present the concepts in a better way than I could. I only have until the end of Jan. to make the switch if I'm going to. The main drawback is the $$$ our main program is almost close to the cost of one course.
  13. We have the manipulatives and I try everyday to use them. But she doesn't get it. I know I'm doing a bad job of explaining. But, for example, in MUS when they add 9+x. They teach to take one from the number that is being added to make a 10. Then add !0+ whatever is left. She can see it with the blocks but she is not making a connection. Should I just have her use the 9 block + the x block and count the total? I'm just scared to move on if she's not getting it.
  14. I don't know what to do at this point! Math comes so easy for my oldest so this is my first road block with math. Last year I used MUS primer with dd (almost 7) and it went ok. So, this year, I thought I would try Saxon b/c of all the extra practice but it did not seem to fit her. Then I switched back to MUS Alpha (b/c we already had it from my oldest) We got to adding +1 and +2 fine but anything after that my dd just doesn't get it. We have used the manipulatives and writing on the white board but she only knows the answer if she counts with her fingers. I'm thinking the issue may be me as the teacher? I'm great at math which I think makes it harder for me to explain to her. So...has anyone done the BJU math DVD or online for 1st grade? I looked at the sample this morning with dd and she seemed really interested. I've also thought about MM since I've seen so many great things but if me the teacher is the problem I didn't know if that would work. Any thoughts/ advice/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  15. This has been my exact experience! It has been hard for me because my oldest just "gets" math. He never needs help and just understands everything easily. My dd the opposite. MUS Primer was fine but she is just not getting Alpha! Thanks for posting. Now I feel like I'm not alone! I'm going to look into MM.
  16. We LOVED Adventures for the same reasons Donna A. posted:001_smile::001_smile: I'm not really a big help though because we have only used MFW since the beginning and have loved every year (so far)!
  17. We have only used MFW! I'm so happy the Lord led me to MFW at the very beginning of our homeschool journey. We have used and LOVED PreK, K, 1st, Adventures and we are in week 11 of ECC.
  18. I've looked into here and found between $24-$42/hour and classes are once a week. Sadly, they are more than we can afford.
  19. My husband bought my engagement ring after a month. Actually proposed after 6 months and we were married a year later. I was 20 and he was 23. He is still the love of my life:001_wub: even though we've only been married 9 1/2 years. We were so young but I wouldn't change anything. However, I can not even imagine my children being our age when they marry!
  20. Thanks to both of you! Sherry I would love your book list!
  21. I'm looking for ideas or websites for Christmas unit studies. If you have used one in the past that you would recommend please share. Thanks.
