  1. This is absolutely the best post I have EVER read on the WTM board. I agree 100% !!! Michelle My Bell
  2. I want to create a seperate page per subject for my daughter, for instance Horizon's Math and have the lesson #'s all on one page for her to check off as completed, but I would like to see some examples of formating. Any help out there? Thanks! Michelle
  3. I don't have a weeks worth of menus, but I wanted to share a delicious chicken salad recipe I made today. It uses the same ingredients as the Kroger Deli Chicken salad I love. They told me what was in it. I don't have amounts, I just added till it looked good. Cook & Shredded Chicken. ( I boiled mine) Hellman's Mayonaise (I think this brand is important) Dill Pickle Relish Chopped Celery (I used 1 stalk) Red Grapes (Sliced in half) Salt & Pepper Mix all together and chill. I served mine on Crossants, but I also use pita bread.
  4. I am sure the group is growing by leaps and bounds, but I would be interested in participating. My dd is 5 and starting K, but she would still enjoy working with things like this. Michelle
  5. Bump this up, I would like to see more responses myself. Michelle
  6. Are you looking for titles that would correspond to the time period, not necessarily the topics? If so, that is a good question because I would like something like that. Here are some links that I know about... http://www.abookintime.com/ http://readingyourwaythroughhistory.com/ http://www.webrary.org/Kids/jbibmenu.html http://monroe.lib.in.us/childrens/timebib.html Michelle
  7. Take them back. Everything is just plain junk these days. I bought a vaccuum 3 days ago and it is already broken. It is going back. Michelle
  8. You should sew up a soft plush eggplant toy to replace the real one with. Michelle
  9. I currently have 1 in Horizon's and 1 in Teaching Textbooks. After trying just about every math curriculum out there, these two are our favorites. I plan to use Horizon's and then switch to Teaching Textbooks, probably in grade 7 since I already have that level. Michelle
  10. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your feedback. I think I like the idea of having the extra drills and teaching notes laid out for me so that I give a solid foundation without having to come up with it all on my own. I will go ahead and get the TM. God Bless, Michelle
  11. I am trying to decide if the TM would be valuable to us for Horizon's Math, specifically grade 2. I have no doubt I could figure out the correct answers, but is there more that would benefit me? Thanks! Michelle
  12. I could care less how much rep. I get. I know who I am and that is that. Ha! :w00t: By the way, I really am a great person who you would love to be friends with! LOL Michelle
  13. What do you mean when you say your going to sell your house and move down to a smaller one? Does your husband live somewhere else? Michelle
  14. Ok Ladies, It is time to start sharing tried and true recipes. Share you canning recipes, your freezing recipes and your drying methods. You can't just tell what you do, but you need to pass on the methods to better society!!!LOL Michelle
  15. We used to call our school Didasko Christian School for the last several years (Didasko measn "to teach" in greek) but I was tired of that name and am ready for a new name. Well, the Lord inspired me through Pilgrim leader William Bradford who spoke of the pilgrims by saying... "They cherished a great hope and inward zeal of laying good foundations... even though they should be but stepping stones to others in the performance of so great a work." I was so amazed at this because this is exactly how I feel. I don't know what the Lord is doing in my life or my family's life, but I would feel so blessed that even if I don't do anything greater than teach my children at home, lead them to love their God and a lifelong commitment to serving Him, that my life can be but a stepping stone to greater things in the future for my children and their children and their children. So we are now officially... Stepping Stones Christian Academy
  16. I WOULD change if I were you. I had lots of those same type of problems with Math-U-See. I think it is the boring black & white pages with the same thing over and over and over again. We switched to Horizons and suddenly my dd knows how to do math and loves it! I posted about this on my blog. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/MichelleMyBell
  17. Forget saying something to the principle, you need to say something to this lady! It will be difficult, but you should only have to do it once and then it will be over. If it is too difficult to say, then maybe a letter will do. Since she is clueless, this sounds just like what she needs to hear. Hopefully she will back off then. God Bless, Michelle
  18. I think modesty is a personal standard set by each family. My pastor once described it as "fit for the occasion". That said, I do think there are clothes that are def. immodest. Our family of girls mostly wear dresses, but if they don't want to, I don't push it. What I do push is being properly covered in all the right places. If an outfit hugs, it goes. My daughters all love modesty. It is something we look at as positive. My oldest daughter has pretty much ALWAYS worn dresses even when I didn't. She is very conservative on purpose. She likes it that way. Basically, we just teach what the Bible says on modesty and then expect common sense on the matter from our whole family (including the boys). Michelle
  19. I guess what bothered me was not that I was offended, but that the tone of your and Michelle's posts was that others in this thread were nuts and doomsday hysterics. That's how it came across to ME. As though people such as myself are simply over reacting and don't know anything about real hardship. It came across as very patronizing. Martha, I guess I need to clarify. I wasn't talking about this post in particular, just all over the internet, TV etc... there are reports and discussions that had been causing me to feel anxious. It is not that I don't believe any of the reports, I honestly don't know what is to come in the future and I don't discount that we could be headed downward. It is that I needed to refocus my attention to my Lord to alleviate my fears. Now that I have given this to Him, I feel SOOO much better. I have been and I am planning on continuing to stock up and other things. In fact for the first time this year ever I have put in a garden and have made canned jam. I am learning so much and I have been reading more than ever about the old time skills. I have always thought them something valuable to learn, but this year I took the plunge and went for it. Anyhow, I hope you know where I was coming from now. Michelle
  20. I could not agree more! I have found myself seriously questioning if I want to even have TV or Internet or even access to the outside world as I all I see and hear are doomsday reports all around me. I tend to get overly worked up inside at times without letting it show on the outside and it causes a great deal of stress within me. I have decided that I just need to focus on Christ and what He has done for me and my family and realize that in Him I am safe and secure. By seeking Him, I know He will lead me should I need to do something to protect my family if it is His will. Michelle PS Sorry to the non-Christians out there who could be offended by my remark, but I know in whom I believeth.
  21. Thanks everyone, I do think it is first time jitters. :tongue_smilie:I fed a little to the kitty last night (Hey don't judge! Its me or him!) and he is still leaping around. LOL Thanks again! Michelle
  22. I just canned (with help) recently and made strawberry jam. Tonight we opened it, but I wouldn't let anyone eat it because I am afaid of Botulism. I suggested we feed it to the cat and see how he does, but they didn't like that idea. Anyhow, we followed all the canning rules, but one lady told me you should have to use a can opener to open your canned items. I just dug my nails under the seal and popped it off. It wasn't super easy, but it wasn't super difficult either. Should I be worried? Thanks for ANY help you can offer! Michelle
  23. I am going to be in charge of our homeschool groups meetings this year and I need help figuring out WHAT to have the topics be, HOW to run the meetings so they are fun, educational and beneficial, WHAT the format should be, roundtable, break-out sessions, lecture, interactive etc... and WHO should be giving the talks, (members or outside sources?) Does anyone have any advice from their own experiences or websites you could direct me to? Thanks! Michelle
  24. Heather, Thank you so much! That actually makes me feel a lot better. I could only find doomsday type reports and this one helped me feel somewhat safer. God Bless, Michelle
