  1. Not. She's planning on getting a certificate in massage therapy. I figured that since she may be self employed in the future it might not be a bad idea to study some kind of business math.
  2. Oh, sorry, I failed to mention that this would be for my senior.
  3. Does anyone have a recommendation for business math? Thanks so much! :bigear:
  4. Does anyone have a deer repellent recipe that you swear by? DH and I recently purchased a property that we're working on renovating and hope to be in by the summer. I really would love to have a garden there, but I know for a fact that deer frequent the place. I'm starting to look now for something to keep them out of a garden in hopes that by then I'll have an answer. Thanks so much!
  5. Hello all, Please someone tell me that I am not the only one with a child that says they cannot take notes. My husband says that he understands because if he takes notes while listening or reading it stops his train of thought. Any ideas as to how to teach ds? Dh is no help, he says he's not good at taking notes either. ; ) Thanks in advance! :bigear:
  6. Looking for a glass water bottle to purchase. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'm not big on straws, but other than that I'm not picky.
  7. Any recommendations on a good biography on Georges Lemaitre that won't be over the heads of us not so strong in science people?
  8. Does anyone know of a good middle school level biography of Georges Lemaitre?
  9. Hello all, I'm looking to supplement a get it done economics curriculum with historical fiction that would teach economics concepts. Could you all please help me out??? Thanks so much! Oh, and if some are juvenile fiction that's fine too. Here are the topics I'm trying to cover... US Founding Pre Industrial Revolution Post Industrial Revolution Great Depression Communism A broad sampling of world history focusing on economic development I have thought of several books... Pride and Prejudice or Mansfield Park The Great Gatsby The Merchant of Venice Animal Farm The Grapes of Wrath
  10. I pulled up Maxwell's Writing in English and DS likes it very much. He's the type that is into books written in 1900. ; ) Thanks for the tip.
  11. Just ran across this and thinking of purchasing it. I've never seen Breakfast on Mars, I'll have to look into that. Thanks!
  12. Lori D. I definitely agree that DS doesn't need to be confined by 5 paragraphs, but I don't want him reading 10 page long essays because he has a hard time deciding on just exactly what it is he wants to include. I also understand that a thesis statement will look very different depending on what type of essay he's writing, so we'll focus on a persuasive essay at first and reading several of those that are well written and on the shorter side (if I can find some). DS is 14 and a freshman. I'm thinking about taking an extra year for high school in order to get the writing down a little better seeing as writing is going to be required across the board now. He really hasn't done very much writing. Totally my fault. Ugh! He does well with discussions and is observant for his age...just need to work on communicating on paper. Going back to some very basics and being sure he works on the main points of the body of his paper before coming up with a thesis. Thanks so very much for your input!
  13. I'm looking for some short essays for DS to read to help him wrap his mind around what a good thesis statement should look like for a five paragraph essay. He has a tendency to try and bite off more than he can chew. However, we really haven't read many essays and I'm thinking that that may be a big part of the problem. Thanks in advance for your recommendations. :bigear:
  14. Hello all, My father in law and son planted turnips last year and this year we have had an abundance of volunteer plants popping up. I know how to cook the greens and sometimes add a few of the roots into the pot, but I've got more roots than I can put in with the greens. So, I would love to hear everyone's favorite way to cook them up in hopes of expanding my recipe collection. Oh, and I'd rather not add sugar to them if at all possible. Thanks!!!
  15. I don't know how well it is aligned with OPGTR, but All About Learning Press has a set of readers that are phonics based. Oops, didn't notice that this had been mentioned.
  16. I did decide to PM her. I'll post a link when I find it. Thanks. ; )
  17. I know this is an old post, but to anyone using Zumdahl's World of Chemistry or Chemistry, this might be helpful.
  18. I read a review at Amazon.com that the Schaum's math books had numerous errors. Did you find this to be the case? Thanks.
  19. Thank you for all of the suggestions. :001_smile:
  20. DS loves the way that AOPS explains the why of math in detail, but really needs more of a spiral approach. Any ideas on how to review previously learned skills? Thanks, Debbie
  21. Were the errors you found in the first or second edition? Would you mind sharing the response that you got for those of us who are using SS as well? Thanks so much!!!
  22. I know that this was posted a long while back, but Orthodox6, do you happen to know where the errors you found were? I purchased a 1st edition of the book some time ago, but haven't had a chance to use it yet and would rather not have to go fishing for errors before I use it if I didn't have to. (I don't have the money to buy another text at this point.) Thanks so much!
  23. Okay, so I've tried posting a couple of times with no response to questions about Read With the Best. Has ANYBODY used the program? I would love to hear some feedback and to know what you used alongside of it for history. If anyone has found another American Literature based wrting program I'd love to hear about that as well. Thanks so much!!! Debbie :bigear:
