Hello All, I am looking to see if anyone has a recipe for bread that doesn't use corn, rice, wheat, oats, cane sugar, dairy or nuts (we CAN do coconut). DH is on a restricted diet and missing his bread. Thanks in advance! Debbie

Hello All, DH is on a restricted diet for a bit, so I'm trying to adjust our recipes. I've heard that garfava flour would work well to make bread, but I don't know what ratio of garbanzo to fava flour you would mix. I know that Bob's Red Mill has a mix, but seeing as I have my own mill, I'd love to know the proportions. Can anyone help me out here??? Thanks!

Hello all, Just found out that HH and DS need to stay away from grains for awhile. Does anyone use a spiralizer with veggies in lieu of pasta? What's a good brand to buy. We're a family of 8 and I don't like to buy a kitchen gadget that isn't going to get used A LOT. Also, what are your favorite veggies to spiralize? Thanks! Debbie

So, do you think that combining Life of Fred and Mortensen would be possible at all? I'm feeling the need for some kind of spine, but love the Mortensen methodology. DS gets bored easily. I had been allowing him to choose problems from challenging word problems, whatever topic he felt like covering, but he's tired of CWP and I'm looking for something that has problems I can use to model the work. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much, this is very helpful. So, now I guess it's off to research what stores are local that we can go to and try stuff on at. Anyone from the Columbia, SC area?

Hello All, DD would like to get a camping pack for Christmas, but as we're new to this I'm not sure what brand to get. She wants it to be big enough that she could use it for a long camping trip or in lieu of luggage for a short trip. I'd like to get something that would last for years, but don't want to spend $400 on a bag. ; ) Probably in the $200 and less range. Thanks! Debbie :bigear:

Just looking for your favorite skip counting songs. I know there are plenty out there, but I'm looking for the least annoying/most catchy as possible as there are older siblings that will inevitably end up hearing the songs as well....over, and over again. ; ) Thanks!

So did your kids do the Blitzer book in its entirety?

Hello all, I am trying to remember the exceptions to the "anywhere a mouse goes" trick for teaching prepositions. I know that of, for, and words dealing with time like during and until don't work with the trick, but am I missing any? Thanks ; )

Hello all, I am looking for shoes for my toddler with fat feet. I'd love to hear some suggestions of brands from all of you that make a soft shoe big enough for my 17 mo. old. and are affordable. I've seen the soft star shoes, and that's the kind of thing I'm looking for, but just can't justify $50 for shoes that may only be worn for a month. Thanks for your help, Debbie

We're studying physics this year and I have a nephew who was asking about the physics involved in the fact that bullets will ricochet off of water and travel further than if the bullet was just shot into the air. Can anyone help me out with this? I did happen to find one website with math involved, but it was starting to make my head swim. ; )

Precalculus without a calculator
dovrar replied to dovrar's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
AK_Mom4 , DD really likes the look of this. Did you purchase a solutions manual to go along with this or are there answers to odds and the review Qs in the back of the book? If you did buy one was it the student's or instructor's solution's manual? Also, it seems that there are "custom" books for different colleges, do you know if that's just a matter of the cover art being changed? Sorry for all of the questions, we're 2 weeks into school and I really want to get a text that works for her. Thanks for the help.- 19 replies

Precalculus without a calculator
dovrar replied to dovrar's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Did you use the media portion of it, or just the book? The reason that I ask is because from reviews on Amazon it seems as though the content in the 2nd-4th edition texts are pretty much the same, but the media portion for the older copies may be obsolete.- 19 replies

I recently purchased a copy of Foerster Precalc with Trig and am disappointed with the number of problems that are plug and chug with a calculator. Can anyone tell me of a text that has good real world problems and teaches precalc without so much reliance on using a calculator? Thanks, Debbie

"Principles of Mathematcs"? I bought a ~$15 like new copy of Allendoerfer/Oakley's "Elements of Mathematics", a precalc text, off of one Allendoerfer's grad students on ebay.

It did finally rise and I put it in the oven. I think it will be fine, but more dense than usual. It's so strange...the bread rose nicely the first time, but when I added more flour and kneaded it in it just didn't want to give me a "window". Ugh.

Hello to all the bread bakers. I've been making bread using primarily sorghum molasses that I get from a friend whose uncle processes it. Well, I ran out of molasses and subbed raw honey and the bread will not turn out. It's springy enough, but when I pull at the dough it just tears instead of being elastic. I'm not sure if it's because it's so humid today or if it's something about the switch in sweeteners. Any thoughts? Thanks!
