JIN MOUSA
clean up puke? Obviously this is going to get gross, so proceed at your own risk. When my first dc first got sick (after eating solids) on her bed in the middle of the night, I made the rookie mistake of throwing everything into the washing machine (oh, sweet naive JIN). That led to three days of removing washed chunks from the washing machine and everything in that load. :glare: I got to practice my latest technique at 3:00 this morning. I used cleaning gloves to scoop the sick off the sheets/pillow and into a plastic grocery bag, then damp wash cloths to wipe the rest of the chunks off large washable items (sheets, blankets, etc.). Then, rinse wash cloths and small washable items (clothing) in kitchen sink, and wash everything on sanitary cycle. This was obviously better than the Great Three Day Clean Chunk Event of 2011. But I still feel like there has to be a better way. So, wise and experienced Hive, share you magic puke clean up process. Good news on last night, after cleaning dc and fixing the bed, we gave dc a bucket. During a repeat puke a couple hours later, all ended up in the bucket. :coolgleamA:
TechWife
Try putting scoopable cat litter on the vomit. That will turn everything “solidâ€, then you can brush it all into a garbage container. I learned this trick at a pediatrician’s office.
alisoncooks
Following. My kid once threw up rice on our carpet. That was awful to clean. We were finding rice particles for days.
dsmith
I now feel well armed for the stomach bug that is sure to follow my mother-in-law home after staying with sick grand kids while sister-in-law was away. :tongue_smilie:  Ds has never managed to hit the bucket.
hornblower
if it's something like carpet or couch, then yeah, dump on dry stuff until it absorbs all the liquid and then then either shop vac or just sweep and scrape it into garbage bags. You can cut margarine lids in half to make a disposable scraper. For laundry items I use the toilet for rinsing. Put on rubber gloves, dunk one item at a time, swish around, lift up over the toilet, flush, repeat. Then place in bucket and repeat with next items. Then the bucket contents can go in the wash.

hornblower
also, honestly, that's not a time I skimp on paper towels. I've done a fair bit of clean up of all sorts of messes with stressed out foster dogs etc and regardless if it's poop or barf, first thing I do is haul out a big roll of paper towels and big garbage bags. & my disposable scrapers really help too. You need to get rid of all that "stuff" before you can start cleaning. Bag it all & get it outside quickly. Then I switch to old cloths and old towels to actually clean and get any stains out.
JIN MOUSA
Brilliant! I'm hoping that now that I am All Prepared, fate/whatever will not deliver us any more puke episodes for quite a while.
Epicurean
A toilet sprayer: https://www.amazon.com/Bumworks-Cloth-Diaper-Toilet-Sprayer/dp/B00PRPO4HI It sprays clean water on stuff while your hold it over the toilet. Then you can throw the rinsed items in a nearby pail and take them to the washer. We cloth diaper and use it primarily for that, but it has a lot of other practical applications too.
