Tiramisu
My D needs plenty of white space or it could never work.
Arcadia
Nope. You can see how much white space there are by clicking on any of the three excerpts on this AoPS link https://artofproblemsolving.com/store/item/prealgebra
Monica_in_Switzerland
It has no white space. The pages are visually very dense and even overwhelming. It's just a wall of text.
Monica_in_Switzerland
* And I say that as an AOPS fangirl.
Sherry in OH
None. If your d can handle the text but wants to be able to put her work directly under the problem, you could write the problems for her.
Tiramisu
Well, that answers that! :)
Tiramisu
None. If your d can handle the text but wants to be able to put her work directly under the problem, you could write the problems for her. This would be a great solution for most people, but I couldn't deal with that extra step right now.
Crimson Wife
The need in AoPS pre-a to copy the problems to notebook paper is one reason my DS feels just "meh" about it while he LOVED Elements of Mathematics (all online). I'm forcing him to finish up the chapters in AoPS pre-a not covered yet by EoM (square roots, geometry) before he can start algebra in EoM.
EKS
Very crowded text. When we used it (for those few weeks), I literally couldn't let my son see it because it would have precipitated a meltdown. I get that they're trying to save everyone money, but an edition with large print and space to make notes and work problems would be wonderful.
Tiramisu
Thanks for the comments. It's nice to know we are not the only ones dealing with this issue. I think the MIF extra practice workbooks have nice spacing. I might fall back on that.
luuknam
I'm not sure if it's possible to print out the book if you get the ebook (there is an ebook, right?), but if there is, you could just cut it up (I'd get a paper cutter in that case, which would be much faster than scissors). The print is already large, fwiw. But not much white space... one could definitely see why certain proofs wouldn't fit in the margins.

I don't think you can print it.
SoCal_Bear
If you like the discovery approach of AOPs, then I would suggest getting Jousting Armadillos. There's a lot more white space, but not as daunting as AOPS. I have both of them on my shelf.
