6packofun
My mom has a 3yo beagle who has started having fairly mild seizures and she's facing $65/month for the medication. Does that sound right? It's phenobarbital. This is the cheapest she can find and it's going to kill her tight budget. Should she suggest another med? Is there a way to find it for less? JudoMom
Yes. He's been on Zonisamide for about 5 weeks. I get Jed's at Sam's for $15-$20 a month. Vet told me Costco was cheaper than she could get through her practice (her dog's on the same rx).
Pink and Green Mom
Our dog is on Phenobarbital, 32.4 MG tablets. He takes 1 pill per day and I pay $35/month at Publix. He used to take 2 pills per day, and it cost $30/month at the same Publix. They never could explain to me why it cost less for twice as many pills, but it did. Beaniemom
We have an elderly beagle mix on phenobarbital. We get it from a "people" pharmacy and pay around $30 for 50 days worth. Call around and see who has the correct strength for the best price.
Mama Geek
Zonisamide here and much less than Phenobarbital and less side effects according to our vet.
Laura Corin
Do the seizures distress the dog or cause other issues? Our dog has seizures and we opted not to treat (with our vet's blessing). We just give her cuddles and she seems fine.
TCB
My brother's dog is on Phenobarbitol and I just picked some up from our vet for them and it was $11.40 for 30 days supply. My SIL says it is at least double that price when she gets it from Walmart. Our vet is fantastic!
6packofun
She has been leaking urine for a few months but I'm not sure if the seizures--or whatever is causing them--is the reason for that. (I would assume but she hasn't been on the phenobarbital long enough to make a difference.) It's not terrible but creates a lot of extra work since Daisy doesn't seem to even know it's happening so her bedding is dirty a few times a day...or the carpet!
