mommyoftwinboys
Is this series appropriate to read to a 7 year old boy? Would they understand it?
Bonnie in VA
Our kids have all read / listened to these at even younger ages. These books are wonderful on so many different levels. I believe that younger kids enjoy them for the stories themselves, and older kids and adults enjoy them because they perceive deeper levels of meaning. MamaT
I first read this to my oldest boys when they were 5 and 7. I thought it would be their second reading when they were older before they could understand all the subleties and allegorical elements. Boy did they surprise me! I heard them discussing the book and they really got it. They read it many times on their own in later years and have always loved it. I would say, yes, it is appropriate. I hope your son loves it as much as mine did.

chickenpatty
My whole family listens to all of the Chronicles at least twice a year! (We live way out in the boonies, so we listen to a lot of audiobooks.) I'm not sure how much my 2 year old listens, but the rest of my gang really enjoys it. Ellie
Yes, it is. No, he might not get all the symbolism, but he'll still enjoy the stories. And when he's older, he'll want to read them again because he enjoyed them, and *then* he'll get it.
Laura Corin
Calvin was scared of the sacrifice scene and the snow queen at that age. I put the series aside and he enjoyed it a few years later (reading independently). Laura
Jen in PA
I read the first two to dd the summer she turned 5. She really enjoyed them, and then she saw the movies.... she preferred the books. I plan to continue with the books slowly, and I am sure she will want to read them independently at some point as well.
Harriet Vane
Both my kids loved them at that age, and dd still loves and re-reads them. Dd did well with ALL the books, but ds did not like The Horse and His Boy, which has a very different feel than the others in the series. I think he'll do better with that one when he's a bit older. K&Rs Mom
Yes! Mine have enjoyed the series from age 4 - the 6.5 yo has read all of them several times. They're pretty sensitive to danger/suspense, but these books haven't bothered them, either with my/dh readings or the audiobooks with professional narrators (which I highly recommend). laylamcb
Yes! My 6yo dd has listened to the entire series at least a dozen times. :001_smile:
BikeBookBread
I've been reading to my 5 and 3 yo girls who eat it up! They DO get it. My older, especially, asks some pretty deep questions that lead to great theological discussions. Go for it!
Jenmomof3
My 7ds is reading this series right now and is LOVING it. he doesn't seem to be having any problem with the content. I'm so glad he has found something to bring his love of reading back again.
