Class ring?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone offer a class ring to their kids? I know many have named their homeschool, gotten t-shirts, create yearbooks, make their own diplomas and even have a graduation. I was just walking thru our local public high school and noticed signs for ordering this year's class ring. Has anyone considered this? Would anyone consider this if it was available (something I might prompt my daughter into creating if it is not already out there. She is very creative and a friend here already makes jewlery...)?

I don't think class rings are as important as they were years ago. My two adult step daughters did not want class rings for high school or college. I still wear my college ring some, but never my high school ring.

I would ask if that is important or not. You child migh would rather have a nice fashionable ring or other jewelry to commemorate graduation.

I think a high school ring was more important in maybe the 1950s or something, and also if you're not planning to go to college. From what I remember from high school, they are outlandishly expensive and hideous. Better to put the money towards real jewelry, I think.

homeschooldiploma.com offers class rings. DS and I looked at them when I was ordering other grad stuff. DS wasn't interested in one for high school. (He says if he gets a class ring it will be a college ring.)

We just ordered ds a ring from this site, and I have to say the customer service is OUTSTANDING. What a great company!

btw, we only got him the ring because he wanted it, and it was important to him. My next 2 may or may not want one. This particular kid wanted a diploma and a ring ;)

A friend's daughter got her ring customized at Walmart of all places. It was really nice, and under $150, if I remember correctly. I'm going to get class rings for whichever of my sons will want one. Boys' rings will be more than girls', probably. My oldest son is involved in a few different varsity sports through our county homeschool group and he wants the sports on his ring.

I am also getting this son a letter jacket. A few years ago the whole homeschool basketball team bought letter jackets and they look really, really nice. My son wasn't on the team at the time, but has since earned varsity letters in a few sports. A local sporting goods store (not a chain like Sports Authority) sells them. It's a little more expensive to buy an individual jacket than to buy a bunch of them at the same time.

We are in the process of buying a letter jacket right now (son's sophomore year). The ring will come the summer before his senior year if he still wants it.

We offered dd#1 one, but she decided against it. I thought maybe she would prefer a nice ring of about the same cost, but she'd not a jewelry girl so didn't even go for that. FYI: We checked the local jewelry store that they order the ps HS rings from & Walmart.com to see what the choices were.
