I'm not sure if I've heard of them. Care to share more? What age would you say they're for? What's horrible about them? Lol.
They're based on the Horrible History books by Terry Deary. Quite humorous, but rather loud. My kids love them.

Loud, and um, graphic. Especially the audio version.

Here's an example of one of the songs from "The Terrible Tudors":

"Henry the 8th was a big fat man

he loved to stuff his face in the frying pan

if he'd stayed away from the beer and wine

he wouldn't have ended up like Frankenstein."

It's not for the faint of heart.

We just watched two Horrible Histories on United Streaming - one on Ancient Egypt and one on the Great Wall of China. Just wanted to share.

When you say "watched", are they "animated", or audio only, or audio plus non (or semi) animated pictures from the books, or what?

They're animated. Here's the complete set at Amazon.co.uk. These are in PAL format so can't be played on most North American DVD players (we have an all-region player which converts PAL to NTSC because we import a lot of stuff from the UK); however, the DVD's are region free and will play on a computer. Apparently United Streaming has them as well.

Each episode is presented as an adventure of two pre-teen/teen? kids who get taken back in time and have an adventure. The music is loud, but that's my only complaint.

This reminded me of a questions I've had for awhile: for what age group are the Horrible Histories? I'm looking for something that both the 8 yr old twins and the 11 yr old dd would enjoy. And no, they aren't turned off by blood and guts, in fact, the more the better.

You've barely scraped the surface of my trivial knowledge. Substance is another question altogether.

The whole "Horrible .." thing threw me, too, but they were actually well done. We had just finished discussing China in SOTW/TOG and a lot of that information was repeated. We supplemented a lot this year with United Streaming, and, with the exception of one Shakespeare play that had nudity (yup!) in it, we have been very pleased.

Oh no, another reason to finally take the plunge and get United Streaming. My kids love HH series. We used to watch them on AnimaniaHD, but Dish Network dropped that chanel over a year ago.

I asked the people from HorribleBooks.com if they would carry them, but they haven't had any luck getting the US format.

You can also get the books. My son LOVES these and reads them over and over. He especially likes the Murderous Math series. When I wanted to learn something about Shakespear, I read the Horrible History book on Shakespeare. It was very easy to read, and I learned a lot! LOL.

I think thse books are best for boys grades 4-8. Not saying girls, littles, and high schoolers won't like them, but they're silly and a sometimes gory.

You can order these from Ray at Horriblebooks.com.

Have you tried this anatomy coloring book?

The cover sums it up. To learn the bones of the limbs, you color BROKEN bones.

I bought the set on ebay. They work just fine on our dvd player.
If the discs are NTSC (i.e. will work on a typical North American player), AFAIK they're illegal copies because the series has never been released in North America on DVD (not that this would be mentioned in an eBay listing). The ones from Amazon.co.uk will not play on an NTSC player. They will work on a computer, however.
