My son is going to Afghanistan

Recommended Posts

My 21yo ds called from Japan this morning to tell us he is being deplooyed to Afghanistan. I knew this was a possibility, but the reality is so frightening.

He is on a general's staff and was supposed to be non-deployable for the rest of his time in. The general is sending about half his staff over there, apparently to send a message to other commanders that they can do with less staff as well.

I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I am still trying to wrap my head around this.

I can't imagine one of my children going to war, it's hard sending my dh every 2 years. He'll be heading out again soon. Saying a pray of peace for you and safety for your son. Also, be mindful of what info. you put out on the internet about the deployment details. I'm sure you know that, just a reminder for security and troop safety. : )

I will be praying for you. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling right now. My ds is going to Iraq on March 15th. Everytime I think about it, I get this horrible feeling in my stomach. He will be 20 on March 5 and I just can't understand where my baby went. My dh is not doing so well with the news either. His 38th birthday is March 15th. He said he had no idea that 20 years after he had his first baby, he would be sending him off to war. If you need to talk - just pm me. I am here. We can get through this together.

Operational Security, people.

Never post the date of a deployment.

Intelligence gathering isn't every bit of info in one place, it is lots and lots of disparate bits that are brought together to form a (sometimes deadly) puzzle.

asta

(who could take the OP and extrapolate exactly who is involved - that's bad)
