University of Dallas offers several excellent summer programs for classically educated high school students:

Shakespeare in Italy

http://www.udallas.edu/travel/italy.cfm

Latin in Rome

http://www.udallas.edu/travel/latin.cfm

Arete: A College Preparatory Seminar for High School Students

http://www.udallas.edu/summer/arete.cfm

My dd loved Shakespeare in Italy, and if we would have had more time before graduation, she would have done Latin in Rome, too. Both of these summer programs are conducted on the UD's Rome campus located just outside of the city of Rome and include trips to other cities in Italy. The Arete program is conducted at the campus in Irving, Texas.

These are all academic programs with excellent professors. The two courses in Rome earn a student three credits from University of Dallas, and give them a taste of the academic program at UD, too.

Speaking of Indiana, my older daughter is planning on trying the Indiana University Slavic Studies seminar. It is an immersion environment. (she'll be a college graduate by then, yay!) They also welcome mature high school students, the website said. It looks like an amazing array of slavic languages (first year) for those that would like to try some of them. Then for Russian they go up to college level year 6! So there would be something for everyone in Russian, at least.

As she's in the Air Force, if you keep your language skills up you get a monthly salary increase if it's a strategic language. I also think she's interested in trying out the atmosphere at a civilian university:001_smile:. I'd love to hear about the Rose Hulman program....

Thanks for the info too.

Our ds went to the Drexel summer mentorship last summer and absolutely loved it. (now it is his top choice college) Here is a link to get you started if your interested. Not free but only about 300 for 3 weeks in residence...it is an NSF grant supported program.

http://http://www.drexel.edu/coe/special/summer/mentor/

Also, the programs at University of Maryland that are mentioned in the original post are quite good. Don't be fooled by the fact that the link goes through the Women in Engineering dept....most are co-ed. Ds did three or four camps there over the years, only one was a one week residence program and it was about 700 I think.

Other engineering types of things that may be local for some folks are run by the ASM is here....I believe this is a day camp and free

http://www.materials.drexel.edu/MaterialsCamp/#apply

I think these camps (the Materials one above) are all run by local ASM chapters so if you check for a local chapter then you could see if there is one nearby.
