Elizabeth86
We just finished up FLL4. We got a bit behind for all kinds of reasons. I kind of wanted to do Grammar for the Well Trained Mind, BUT I’m thinking something more independent would work best because I have 4 that are school age this year plus the little baby. Any suggestions? I’m hoping something rigorous because I’m so weak in grammar. I want better for my kids.
amiesmom
I would look at Analytical Grammar or Jr. Analytical Grammar.

But they just got redone so check out the new ones or see if rainbow resource still has any old student books?

Green Bean
Hake is what SWB suggests in 4th edition. Covers all your bases.
caffeineandbooks
I'm going to be the voice of dissent who doesn't think anybody needs 12 years of formal grammar. If you can't imagine just taking the year off grammar, what about a light and independent year with Easy Grammar (workbook, five minutes a day), and then look at GFWTM next year?

Well…I could imagine taking time off from grammar. That’s why it took us about 2 years to get through FLL. 1
chiguirre
I'm using Climbing to Good English with my 9yo nephew. It's very independent and includes writing practice along with detailed grammar instruction. Take a look at a sample and see if it would work for you. SilverMoon
My 12yo used Grammar for the Well Trained Mind mostly independently last year. 🤷♀️ This year we're going to use Daily Language Review to keep it fresh but give him more time for writing. Growing With Grammar from Jackris may be a better fit for you though. It's an easy to use workbook that's written to the student.
A.M.
We are doing FFL over 2 years, and plan to follow up with Analytical Grammar once dd is in 6th grade. The idea is to pace AG over a 3-year period and have her do grammar for 10 weeks each year. I will be giving her a reinforcement worksheet every now and then.
