bodiesmom
Quick question, Hive, I am wanting to apply for some entry-level jobs within our home school district. I volunteered over the summer for approximately 7 days (2.5 hours a day) in an Art & Garden Club at the elementary school. Would it be appropriate to ask the teacher I volunteered under if I could use her as a reference, or no?
East Coast Sue
Seems like a good reference to me. I’m going through the application process too and finding it challenging to think of who to ask to serve as a reference.
marbel
I think that person would be a very appropriate reference, assuming they will speak highly of you!
bodiesmom
Thank you, both, for your replies. I just feel like I didn't spend enough time with her to ask this of her, but I'm also attempting to enter the workforce after an 18 year hiatus so what do I know. 🙂
Laurel-in-CA
On re-entering the workforce, YES a reference would be great. I list my homeschooling time as individualized tutoring on my resume and, since I was a technical writer before, I mention teaching middle and high school group english and speech classes, which I did for several years for our co-op (for minimal pay). And be willing to be patient! It sure has taken me awhile, but some of that is down to covid and not wanting to go back f/t.
Ausmumof3
Yes definitely! Not having references when you start back is such a pain!

Sure, as a teacher I'd be happy to provide a recommendation in this situation.
Hyacinth
She sounds like a good reference to me! You could ask her if she’s comfortable providing a reference given the amount of time you worked with her.
