Sick kids far away

We’ve had two of these threads lately- it’s just so hard. DS 19 is sick. Normally he is just two hours from us, but We are traveling and have a time change with spotty cell service. I’ve barely heard from him today and I’m so worried.
I hate it! Tomorrow I should be able to get in touch and we’ll be home Tuesday, but it’s going to be a long night. I wish he would have gone to an urgent care like I asked today. He’s been sick since Friday, but seemed like he might have felt better yesterday, but not as great today. It’s just hard to not be able to be there. As I know you all know!

Is it COVID or a “general” illness, or do you know?

I agree, it is scary— especially right now. Gaining access to an ER or urgent care isn’t even possible everywhere right now; in some of my state's hospitals the ERs are overflowing with unvaccinated people dying of COVID, forcing sick and injured folks to wait in their cars in freezing temperatures.

And it’s tough as mom, because technically at that age our kids are adults, but also we know they are still young and don’t have the wisdom of experience that lets them know when something is “really” wrong and requires action.

Hopefully your boy is sleeping a lot and that’s why you haven’t heard from him. And hopefully he’s on the mend soon!

Sending you lots of mama strength and commiseration. ((Hugs))

Thanks everyone. He is just sleeping a lot. He feels ok. He’s waiting for his covid test results.
I talked to him for awhile today and he sounds good on the phone. We do have friends in the area, that can check in if he needs it.

One of the days DS was sick, he went for hours without responding to my texts (very unusual) and I got so paranoid I actually *emailed! gasp!* him to make sure he was still alive. Of course, he had been sleeping for like 18 hours; days later he read my email. Lol

Fingers crossed yours gets a negative test result and feels better soon!

It is weird not to be in touch! Ireland would be too much for me for sure.

I'm so glad he's ok and you have friends nearby just in case.  Sleeping is good!
