popmom Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) What has your experience been with non stimulant meds? I have never been formally diagnosed but may pursue that soon. My former pdoc/neurologist didn't believe in ADHD. He did prescribe me Wellbutrin (this was 10 years ago). It was amazing until it pooped out after a couple of years. It really made a huge difference, and it was so depressing when it quit working. No one will prescribe me a stimulant because I have a history of seizures. Which I think is ridiculous because Wellbutrin lowers the seizure threshhold. That dr had me take Klonopin with the Wellbutrin to raise the seizure threshhold. I'm interested in Intuniv. Anyone had any experience with that? Are there any others worth looking at? ETA: I have taken a 20mg Vyvanse that was my dd's leftovers when she went to a higher dose. There were only 3 left. Every once in a while I would take one on a day when I knew I wouldn't be driving. Even that low dose made a difference. It wasn't as striking as when the Wellbutrin worked, but it was helpful--able to finish tasks and move on to the next thing, finish that and move on to the next thing. It seems so trivial when I word it like that, but that's a huge thing for me. Edited September 2, 2021 by popmom Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 Ds trialed Intuniv and clonidine. They didn’t work as well as Vyvanse. Vyvanse has been amazing. We have another kid who will likely trial meds soon. We will start with Intuniv. You might also check out Straterra. 1 Quote
Lady Florida. Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) Non stimulant meds tend to work better for those who don't have impulse control issues. Ds has tried both Strattera and Vyvanse. Neither one works for him. Edited September 2, 2021 by Lady Florida. 1 Quote
SanDiegoMom Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 My daughter is on Strattera and Vyvanse. She has terrible working memory, and Strattera helps that. So she is "ok" on Strattera, but great on both. 1 Quote
popmom Posted September 2, 2021 Author Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) Can Strattera be taken with Zoloft? Edited September 2, 2021 by popmom Quote
whitestavern Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 My S's psychopharmacologist recommended Qelbree, but he was already on Vyvanse and felt it was working well. It's a new non stimulant. You might want to look into it. 1 Quote
