ProudGrandma
what are other products that my daughter can use to hang things on her dorm room wall? It appears that the clear strips (and maybe it's those specific strips) didn't hold and all of her lights and lightweight decorations fell down. Looking for other options or a solution as to why those didn't stick for her. thanks.
ProudGrandma
they are a painted wall....smooth...no reason to think they won't stick...but maybe they were dusty or something..
Arcadia
My cord bundlers have been holding up a bunch of internet security tokens very well https://www.amazon.com/Command-Bundlers-Organizer-2-Bundlers-17304-ES/dp/B0779KT1XD My small command strips didn’t work as well and we just replace as needed. https://www.amazon.com/Command-Plastic-Clear-Hooks-Strips/dp/B018528W6S For us the strips works better on places in our home that don’t get direct sunlight, and I get those that are at least double the weight the hook claim to be able to hold. I also find not hanging stuff on a new hook until 24hrs helps. My surfaces are slightly textured.
ThisIsTheDay
Are you required to use Command Strips? They were the only permissible hanger at my daughter's school, and some them tore off big spots of paint (new dorms) when removing. My son's college apartment bans them because they can damage the walls so badly! Can you do small nails or pushpins?
Suzanne in ABQ
My daughter had the same problem with her dorm walls. Your dd could try cleaning the spot with alcohol before applying the Command strip. This would remove any soapy or oily residue that might keep the adhesive from sticking. Another option is to use the clay-like adhesive, I think it's called Poster Tack, or Poster Putty, or Tack It, or Fun Tac (all on Amazon when I searched for "poster tack putty") I don't know whether it would stick better than Command strips, but it's cheap. Get the white kind. Third option would be using Glue Dots. Just make sure to get the Removable kind, or she'll have a mess.
katilac
Washi tape for lightweight stuff, although I can't imagine why Command strips didn't work on smooth walls.
Aura
I've had trouble with Command strips in high humidity situations. One option is getting the ones for outdoor or bathroom use. Those usually stick better. To get them off, heat them with a hair dryer for a few minutes before trying to remove. (I got that tip on here!) If humidity is the issue, I don't think washi tape will work better either, at least not in my experience. Poster putty does better, but not the best, and it seems to leave a residue behind. For my dd's dorm, she's allowed to use push pin tacks. Those hold up quite a few things. If she can use push pins, these might also be an option, and they can hold A LOT. Farrar
I have found that those plastic velcro hanging strips work better than the regular command strips. It doesn't totally make sense, but...
