Pawz4me
Our dentist absolutely insists on a milkshake or smoothie on the way home. And ice packs and Motrin on a regular schedule for several days. And more milkshakes and smoothies. Her big thing is keeping the swelling down. She says that is the key to avoiding issues. I hope it goes smoothly!

I hope it goes smoothly! Yes, keeping swelling down is essential. Those first few days make or break the next few weeks. One of my dc was 100% consistent with the ice packs and had no visible swelling. The other was inconsistent (when I wasn't standing there to make sure it happened) and ended up with swelling and discomfort that lasted about a week. One of dc's friends didn't use ice packs at all and ended up with swelling that lasted and lasted; he still couldn't chew meat comfortably two weeks later.

Pawz4me
A bag of frozen peas makes the best ice pack. And I say that based on very recent experience--I lost a tooth last week due to a horrendously painful abscess. That bag of peas was invaluable.
Ali in OR
My biggest lesson from dd was no Oxycontin! Stick with OTC pain relievers. She had nausea and dizziness and it took us a day to realize it was the pain med, not the procedure itself.
Shellydon
Thanks all. She did not feel well enough to eat anything until about 5 hours post procedure. She had gotten down some applesauce and a scoop of ice cream and taken pain meds.
