Anyone near Round Rock, TX? Help!

My daughter and her family go to Austin every spring for the Lone Star Round Up antique car show. They usually stay closer to the car show, but this year their Air BnB is in Round Rock.

She’s wanting to know if there are any no-miss places/activities in that area?

Obviously we will still do certain things in Austin (I’m going with them this year for the first time), but she’s wondering if there are some things closer to where we are staying that are worth seeing/doing.

She has 3 children (5, 3 and 7 months) that will be with us all the time.

Thanks for the input!

Thanks.

Any no-miss places to eat? We LOVE to try local food joints when we travel. I know Austin is loaded with them, but was thinking there might be something closer to where we are staying just in case we don’t feel like venturing out one day.

Chuy's Mexican Restaurant. There's at least one in Round Rock we enjoy visiting.  (And they won my heart when I had my son, then age 3 or 4, with me and how well they treated him. They are good with children)

This started in Austin, but has become a bit of a chain

The best bar be que in the area is Salt Lick Bar B Que. Their best store is FAR Down south in Driftwood, but the restaurant in Round Rock (Near Dell Diamond--where AAA baseball is played. They have a playground if you bring the kids and the kids get bored) is GREAT for the convenience. We have gotten take out there and been completely satisfied.

Jack Allen's Kitchen is great for locally sourced food. https://jackallenskitchen.com/

There's also a In and Out at the outlet mall in Round Rock (if you happen to live where that does not exist)  The outlet mall is across from an IKEA.

The Mighty Fine Burgers in the parking lot with the IKEA has an outside play area (fairly new). You can sit outside with GREAT burgers and watch your kids play.

When I had an out of town friend come into town, we took a tour at the Inner Space Caverns https://www.innerspacecavern.com/

I just saw the ages of the kids.  The fantastic park referred to is /Play for All Abilities/Rabb park. And it is completely enclosed in fences so I've always felt safer taking my kids.  https://www.roundrocktexas.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/parks-trails/play-park/

If you are going to be here after it opens, ROund Rock also has a cool waterpark for kids. Rock'N River Waterpark. https://www.roundrocktexas.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/facilities/pools/rockn-river-water-park-memorial-day-weekend/

ETA again: There is a pizza/miniature golf/games place right next door in Pflugerville called Austin's Park. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g56451-d1847154-Reviews-Austin_s_Park-Pflugerville_Texas.html  The pizza is only ok and so far your kids are a bit young so a lot of the games they will likely be too short for

If you need an indoor place to bounce/run off steam, my kids love Catch Air http://roundtherocktx.com/10-fun-things-catch-air-round-rock.html

And they have a place specifically for littler kids to not get run over, while not being so huge the parent loses track of their kid.

That's where I live. 🙂

Just up the road is Inner Space Caverns. We took our daughter and grandson there when he was only 3ish or 4ish, and he enjoyed it.

Y'all could have a meal at the Salt Lick, which is right next to the Dell Diamond. It's a very Texas-y place to eat.

Chuy’s is my favorite. Thankfully they expanded and have multiple locations throughout Texas and some other states, including one not too far from me. There’s one in Orlando too. Near the library there used to be a restaurant called Louisiana Longhorn Cafe. It was really good, and they were very family friendly. Hopefully they’re still around. We learned that another favorite restaurant of ours, La Morada, closed down the last time we drove through there.

Thanks for all the suggestions for places and things to do! I just sent all the info to my daughter.

Chuy's is always a fave, but I eat there a fair amount (we have one within about an hour and a half, and it's where my niece lives too, so I do get to go fairly often). I would love to try some really good, local stuff while I'm there.

It's not Round Rock, but Pflugerville is just next door. (I  live in Pflugerville but my "local" grocery store, gas station, Wal-mart, etc are all in Round Rock. We currently attend church in Round Rock)

Oh! You need to try the donuts at Round Rock donuts (next door to the church). They are definitely iconic. http://roundrockdonuts.com/

There is a FANTASTIC Ethiopian restaurant in Pflugerville.

It is called Taste of Ethiopia  http://www.tasteofethiopiaaustin.com/

It is fun to get to try a type of food usually served in another country, eat with your fingers, etc. I've seen little kids there. My son loves the food. My daughter (who is extremely picky) was not a fan.  A lot of their food is spicy (Evidently normal for Ethiopian food)  but we usually get Alicha Siga Wot (which is wonderful!) and then ask for recommendations of a second dish empasizing we need it cooked not spicy at all.
