PinkTulip
I'm sure this has been answered before but I can't seem to find it, so please forgive me: I'm doing my water test tonight after my first Instant Pot was delivered today. It came to pressure, moved to the steam program, then moved to the keep warm function. It has been there for about 10 minutes and the float valve hadn't moved down at all. Dumb question: but do I have to push cancel to have it naturally release the pressure. I don't want to quick release just yet (I'm a little nervous about this thing, but want to love it!) Thanks all! Jyhwkmama
The keep warm setting keeps some heat on, so it will take longer to naturally release. Hit cancel and it will cool faster. Prairie~Phlox
You can and it will drop a little quicker, if you keep in on "keep warm" it will just take a little longer.
PinkTulip
Thanks for the quick replies - I tried a quick release and only a tiny bit came sputtering out. Tomorrow: hard boiled eggs! Edited November 29, 2017 by PinkTulip
Prairie~Phlox
Have fun. I LOVE mashed potatoes in the IP. So easy to make.
Katy
Have fun. Boiled eggs was the first thing that made me realize the IP was going to be life changing.
Word Nerd
Don’t be afraid of Quick Release. I used a hot pad or wooden spoon to push the valve and release the steam the first several times I did it. When I finally turned it with my bare fingers, I laughed at myself for having made such a big deal out of it. Enjoy!
JFSinIL
Yes, poke at the valve with a wooden spoon or other item, not your bare hand. You don't want bare flesh anywhere near that thing when the steam starts coming out! I tend to unplug the Pot, and set the kitchen timer for 10 or 20 minutes when releasing (unless it is quick release). If I don't hear the thing beep and it goes to Low for a while, I have never ruined anything... ...except my spaghetti squash. We had a power outage one minutes after it came to pressure. Was only supposed to be in the Pot two minutes max (s.squash cooks fast!) and having to run for candles etc. I forgot about it. Mush.
