Giving a used book as a gift?

I am talking about a book bought off half.com or amazon second hand specifically to be given as a gift. If the book was in excellent condition would this be acceptable? I personally wouldn't have a problem with recieving this, but I am wondering about giving one.

I would if the book was in like new condition OR if the book was OOP and difficult to find.

I give used to anyone I know well enough to say "I'm so glad I found that book used at ________" after he/she has opened the package.

I just have to say I love getting used books as gifts, especially when it's from someone I know loved the book. But I just love used books period.

and even friends. I think my friends and family are all in the same economic boat and it is nice to be able to give something that would have cost a whole lot more new. Most of the book I find to give are difficult to buy new anyway.

We've received used books and love it. As long as they aren't stinky and not too torn up, it's good for us. We are pickier about the books we give though.

Me too. I would be very happy if someone got a good deal on a book for me!!! I would actually be happier than if they bought it new.

I'd give someone a used book in excellent condition without a qualm. To me the content of the book is the important part, not whether it is new or used. It's a gift though, so I'd make sure it looked good.

I gave my niece 5 literature classics last year for Christmas that I got off bookmooch.com. She is in college and had specifically said she was trying to expand her reading. I told her where I got them and we did give her another small present also, since the books were all essentially free.

Many of the gifts I give are bought used, including books. If the item is in like new condition, then I don't think it matters whether or not it is new. Because I have always given used gifts, my dc expect that many of their presents will be picked up at thrift stores and yard sales.

 

My other relatives don't mind either. These are always things in great condition though, and sometimes are still in the box etc.
