MomOfABunch
I'm looking for a simple song book with mostly American folk songs to go with our US History for this year. Bay Lake Mom
This is the recommended folk songs book for a popular Charlotte Mason curriculum. 150 American Folk Songs : To Sing, Read, and Play - https://www.amazon.com/150-American-Folk-Songs-Sing/dp/0913932043/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504438573&sr=8-1&keywords=Folk+songs I bought it, but haven't fit it in our schedule yet this year. It looks really good, though.
Earthmerlin
I just put this one below in my cart: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1936098849/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I don't know your playing level, but this one will be for my kid, who has not quite a year's worth of lessons under her belt. There's a Christmas carols one too on (nearly) the same level. Edited September 3, 2017 by Earthmerlin
knitgrl
I try to teach dd the folk songs listed in the What Your X Grader Should Know series. I had these fantasies of playing them on the piano, but for some reason my 4yo is really against it, and makes it nearly impossible. I used the books below; the Golden Encyclopedia isn't entirely American folk songs, but has some the other doesn't. Guest
I'm gonna sing my head off https://www.amazon.com/dp/0679872329/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xVcRzbACD8M9K
RootAnn
I love I Hear America Singing! (newer edition of Gonna Sing My Head Off that okbud posted above.) I wasn't looking for one that had the music inside as I never liked playing the piano myself. The edition I linked comes with a CD that includes some of them recorded on it. Dmmetler
Ruth Crawford Seeger's collection is great, especially if you can get the recordings to go with it https://smile.amazon.com/American-Folk-Songs-Children-Seeger/dp/0825603463/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1504465579&sr=1-1&keywords=american+folk+songs+for+children Also, not 100 percent folk songs, but Get America Singing again is a great collection. https://smile.amazon.com/America-Singing-Again-Vol-Singers/dp/0793566363/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1504465670&sr=1-1&keywords=get+america+singing+again Edited September 3, 2017 by dmmetler
