Shellydon
My 8 year old has has 24 hours of vomiting and diarrhea 4 times in the last 2.5 months. Prior to this, he had vomited once in his life. He does not run a fever, he does not feel badly between vomiting episodes. He does have severe stomach cramping 10 minutes prior throwing up. My other kids do not come down with anything. Any ideas as to what this could be?

sassenach
Constipation is my first guess.

Shellydon
Constipation is my first guess. Definitely not this. :)
sassenach
Definitely not this. :) Are you sure? Diarrhea is actually a symptom of constipation. The liquid stuff leaks around the sides of the blockage. 24 hours of intermittent vomiting is exactly what happened with my son who was pooping, but not nearly enough. Upon x-ray, we found out that he was severely backed up despite having regular bms. SaveSave
Laurie
I've heard of a couple of children who had cyclic vomiting syndrome. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cyclic-vomiting-syndrome/basics/definition/con-20028160
kroe1
Does he take supplements? Fish oil and Vitamin A can cause similar symptoms.
StephanieZ
Food allergy? I'd start a food diary and track things carefully, to see if you can find a connection. I'd also set him up with an allergist appointment as well as a pediatrician appointment.

sassenach
Total TMI, but when he has diarrhea it is large amount of totally liquid stool. Is it gelatinous? Either way, this sounds like something to pursue with his pediatrician. Good luck!
