Something like Classical Conversations...

Recommended Posts

Is there anything else out there nationally that is structured like CC, where the majority is done at home but then kids come together once a week for collaboration, fine arts etc? I have 2 hang ups with CC: parents remain in class whole time and early intro to grammar and Latin. We are meshing CM and classical to find our fit and both of those things arent on our radar as yet. So is there anything else out there that's structured like CC?

I don't know of anything else structured like CC. I had similar issues with it when my dc were younger. We are joining CC for the first time next year at the Challenge level. We just did our own CM/classical mix in the earlier years with a co-op for enrichment classes.

I would love to know this too. I caved and joined a CC group for the fall (Foundations). After talking with the director I felt better about it as some people do all of the memory work and others do some and just take part in the community. We are joining for the community mainly. If there was another similar option though that would be amazing. I love the consistency of CC and that the kids can have some after lunch play time on a weekly basis. We also belong to a homeschool support option. The kids take enrichment classes a couple times a week. I have gotten to know people but it is the group consistency I am looking for.

In my area there is a CM group that meets every Tuesday rotating nature walks and lessons but I haven't looked into more.

I haven't heard of anything that is structured the same as CC. I will say that if your main hang ups are the grammar and Latin, that is not such a big deal IMO. It is literally just a few minutes of class time on each one, and you don't have to focus on that at home. Being in the class the whole time, yeah, that is a big deal if you are looking for a drop off. Although none of the co-ops local to me are a drop off program, either.

We had a great experience for the past three years at CC, and if it weren't for my daughter's health problems this year, we would still be going next year. That and the fact that my kids didn't want to do it anymore. Most of the children in the program seem to really enjoy it so I think mine were just done.
