Book Crazy
Can anyone recommend a good book/website that has a good overview of all the major world religions? What are some good picture books that deal with stories from each of these religions? Thanks Sarah
Karenciavo
We use and like the Usborne Encyclopedia of World Religions.
Laura Corin
For elementary I like One World, Many Religions by Mary Pope Osborne. Best wishes Laura
mcconnellboys
I like this book as a spine, too. We also obtain lots of videos on various religions through our library system, Netflix, etc. These are some titles I own that I picked up cheap at book sales: United Learning, grades 7-12, 28 minutes in length, with study guides, Religions of the World series: Buddhism Hinduism Islam Christianity Judaism Films for the Humanities and Sciences, Testament: The Bible and History: As it Was in the Beginning Chronicles and Kings Thine is the Kingdom The Power and the Glory (52 min. each) Also, same company: Walking with Buddha (29 min.) Knowledge Unlimited, Inc., Faith and Belief: Five Major World Religions (21 min.) Double Diamond Corporation, Cathedrals (15 min.) - includes a paper sculpture project idea at the end.... Plaid Dad
We use and like the Usborne Encyclopedia of World Religions. I second this one.
OnTheBrink
I second this one. I third it. Although, I didn't know MPO had written a book about world religions. My dd loves Magic Treehouse; I wonder if she'd like this book, too.
kalanamak
http://www.amazon.com/Religions-World-School-Specialty-Publishing/dp/0872266044/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1202947118&sr=1-1 I have this book and will read it to kiddo at 7 or 8, I think. It gives no hot or cold direction on a particular religion, or religion in general. Perfect for a "neutral" survey. The more practitioners, the more pages on a particular religion, and very complete. Nice pics.
Book Crazy
Thanks for the ideas. My library does not have either of thoses books. What a great excuse to buy more books! Sarah
