Beaniemom
Does anyone have this particular combo of bookcase/door from Ikea? It looks like fun since you can personalize the doors but I am wondering how well they hold up. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49017829/#/S19020480 I want a full sized bookcase with doors for our school room. Half glass would be ok but at least half the door needs to be solid. Any other suggestions?
Corraleno
I don't have those doors (although now I want them!), but I have lots of Billy bookcases and they are incredibly sturdy. Some of the ones I have are more than 20 years old and have been through multiple long-distance moves and they are are as solid as ever. You can load the shelves up like crazy and they don't warp or bend.
arliemaria
I have three tall Billy bookcases in our basement for overflow of books. Hopefully we'll fill those and I can get more later because they are great bookcases for the price.
prairiewindmomma
We have 9 Billys but different doors. They don't sell that type of solid door anymore. I would look at reinforcing the backs of the bookcases if you ever plan to move. This has been the failure point for our cases. (We had three fail in our move.) I'm not so much worried about the bookcase as the doors. We had a billy bookcase and the more sid Hemnes bookcase and they have both moved multiple times with no problem. I fear the doors may not last as long. I guess I could always replace the doors in the future if they fail though.
gardenmom5
my suggestion for if you want doors on your bookcase - get the deeper bookcases. I have books that overhand the edge of the shelf. get the 15" deep bookcases. (the height extensions do not come in a 15" depth.) my dd has a single wide with that door (or simliar). the door is plenty sturdy.
