lisabees
I posted on the General Education board with no responses. I thought it might get more views here. I have been self studying Spanish and came across this free course called Language Transfer. It is apparently similar in approach to Michel Thomas (which I've never used). It is truly an awesome and fun supplement for me - very powerful in making me feel like a Spanish speaker immediately. I had three years of high school Spanish many decades ago, so I have a basic grasp of the language. Every time I use it, I feel like I need to tell everyone how amazing it is. And, no, I have no affiliation with it at all. There are a handful of other languages to choose from (German, Greek, Arabic, Turkish) - although I am not sure if they are complete. It is a project that is dependent upon donations. Enjoy! Edited August 19, 2016 by lisabees

TX Native
Actually I read your other post and started the lessons 2 days ago. I learned a lot from the little I've listened to so far. Thank you for sharing.
Chrysalis Academy
It is really great. It does remind me of Michel Thomas, which is the best audio spanish program I've ever listened to. It reminds me a little bit of the approach in Madrigals. I think it will be a great complement to the heavy grammar-based programs we've been using. It does uniquely make you feel like you can speak spanish, right from the get-go. I think this will be good for dd, she's been studying spanish for two years now but it still doesn't seem like she can actually speak it. I'm hoping this will help kick it up a notch, conversationally speaking.
Frances
Thanks for the recommendation. My son is doing research in Germany this summer and is very interested in learning German. I sent him the link.
TX Native
I discovered today that a PDF transcript of the audio files is available for free download. This is great to read after listening to the audio to see how the phrases, sentences, and words he is speaking are spelled. I am following the recommendation to just do one lesson at a time. I have been reviewing my scribble notes from the prior day before starting a new audio lesson. Since the audio lessons only average between 7-12 minutes each , I am planning to follow this format: 1. listen to the audio and jot down a few quick notes while listening 2. Read the PDF of that audio. 3. Practice mentally transforming new words learned taken from my everyday conversation to Spanish 4. Next day review the written notes of the previous lesson and quickly skim through the PDF transcript of the previous lesson. 5. Repeat step 1. Hopefully, I will be more fluent in Spanish within the year. If so, we could start a Spanish subgroup, lol. On a side note, I took the girls for water ice last night and we sat down next to a Mexican gentleman and son. He talked with my stepdaughter (who is fairly fluent) and I understood almost everything! I am also doing Pimsleur and will begin Homeschool Spanish Academy soon. I need a crash course before my honeymoon! I am trying to surprise my fiancee, who is fluent. Good luck!
