Sci Fi and/or Fantasy Writing Program?

Recommended Posts

TGC has a course called "How Great Science Fiction Works".  We tried to do Fantasy themed Lang Arts last year but I dropped the ball early and we never got back to it.

There are several good books about how to write fantasy and science fiction, I don't have the titles in front of me..... in fact they're in a box but I'll see if I can find them later, mostly I did a lot of Amazon searching.

We used Adventures in Fantasy by John Gust last year and my ds13 loved it. He wrote a 12,000 word fantasy book.

I wrote a huge review about it and posted it here a few months ago, but I can't find a thing about it. I've spent the past 15 minutes searching every way I can think to search, including googling.

I can't say enough good about it.

It leads you step by step in how to write a fantasy novel. It has you figure out setting, character, and plot well before you start writing, so when you do the writing part it's pretty smooth sailing.

My son has said he plans on writing another book in his spare time and asked me to leave out the Adventures in Fantasy book for him to refer to. I don't know if he'll follow through with that, but it does show that he loved the project.

MY kid hated OYAN.... but they have a fantasy module called "Other Worlds"

I really don't think this would be usable by someone who'd prefer secular, OP. Just FWIW. It looks really fantastic but it is definitely from a heavily Christian worldview (they also say this on their webpage) and it is infused through the curriculum.

I don't know about that.  I've known of plenty of secular homeschoolers who've loved this program.  http://www.deanwesleysmith.com/lecture-series/
