The kids and I are waiting and watching to see if we can chance upon a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle nesting site. (I know the odds are low, but the kids know it's peak season.)  It's super windy....any ideas for anchoring beach umbrellas to survive 30mph winds?

Lots and lots of bricks with rope. If you can borrow those for anchoring small boats, those would work. My middle school camping was in high wind gust beach areas

Hmmm....my beach umbrellas have flaps that roll down the sides with pockets at the end; sand goes in the pockets to anchor the umbrella. On windy days I bring along dive weights to stick in the pockets. If you want to tether it down you will need sand stakes (different from regular tent stakes).

When we went tot he beach last year my dad had a neat little t shape tube thingy that could be screwed into the sand and then a screw thingy to hold the umbrella in the tube.

Would it withstand 30 mph wind? No idea since it was just barely windy enough to fly a kite.

I'm just home from the beach where it was very windy and not single person's umbrella survived the wind. So I looked at our news site to check the wind speed and it was only 22 mph. It's not looking good for your 30 mph. :(
