always searching for more great books

Recommended Posts

I've been reading this forum for quite a while now and I've found many posts very helpful. Sometimes it is just comforting to know that the ups and downs of the journey you're on is shared by others in some ways.

I'm reaching out for some help regarding book recommendations for my 9.5yr old daughter, who I'm homeschooling here in Australia.

Here are some of the books she's loved in the past year:

Series:

Percy Jackson

Heroes of Olympus

A Series of Unfortunate Events

All the Wrong Questions

Secret series

Theodore Boone

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Mysterious Benedict Society

39 Clues

Lemonade War

Stand alone books:

Out of my Mind

London Eye Mystery

Rules

From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler

She loves a range of styles, clearly. My issue is keeping the great books coming and finding books that aren't too 'old' for a 9yr old. I'm not ready for her to head into the Young Adult section of the library just yet.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Wrinkle in Time (and the rest of the quintet, but I didn't care for the mature subjects of the ones after these for my young readers)

Chronicles of Prydain

Chronicles of Narnia

Harry Potter series

The Apothacary series

Phantom Tollbooth

When You Reach Me

Little Women

Wonder

Call of the Wild

The Hobbit

The Golden Fleece

Sherlock Holmes stories

The Little Prince

Your list is almost identical to my 10ds. :-)

Here are some others to consider:

My Side of the Mountain

Kane Chronicles

A Wrinkle in Time

Penderwicks series

Seven Wonders Series

Tale of Despereaux (easy read but lovely story)

Shiloh

Phantom Tollbooth

Soup

Stig of the Dump

and from his Autralian friends... Andrew Lost series.

Have fun!
