Prairie~Phlox
This is local to me and I saw it in the news the other night, thought I would share the link here: https://www.cs.purdue.edu/outreach/cs180-hs.html

Cottonwood
I am VERY interested in this for my 12.5 yr old. I allowed him to choose his science this year and he choose computer science and i've been looking around for an affordable, yet high quality computer science course. I filled in the form to sign him up but I have a feeling they will reject him based on age. Here's hoping! Thank you!
Sweet Home Alabama
What if Alg. II has not been taken? Consequences? How hard would the course be? Ds had Alg. I last year and is taking geometry this year.
8filltheheart
Thank you. Dd just registered. We were just talking about this yesterday bc she has not done any programming at all and all of the college 4 yr plans she has been looking into require a programming class. AEC
What if Alg. II has not been taken? Consequences? How hard would the course be? Ds had Alg. I last year and is taking geometry this year. Depending on the topics covered, AlgII may be essential or ancillary (used in some examples but not actually required to get the topics covered). If it's actually just learning a programming language and some basic datastructures (still really useful, but not exactly 'compute science' in the same way that grammar and vocabulary aren't exactly 'english lit') then Alg I should be fine. I went looking for a course syllabus or outline to see if I could help answer this question for you but can't find one...has anyone else found it? Kathy in Richmond
I went looking for a course syllabus or outline to see if I could help answer this question for you but can't find one...has anyone else found it? If it's similar to the CS 180 class at Purdue as the info claims, then this syllabus outline should give you a good idea of the topics covered.
8filltheheart
It states that it prepares students for the AP CS A exam. You can read CB's pdf on the exam here https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/ap/ap-computer-science-a-course-description-2014.pdf One page 7 it states the pre-reqs. (Understanding functions (and function notation) and mathematical reasoning skills.)
AEC
If it's similar to the CS 180 class at Purdue as the info claims, then this syllabus outline should give you a good idea of the topics covered. based on that, it's pretty math-light. I expect a good Alg1 class (functions, functional notation, maybe quadratic equations, etc.) is enough.
