Night Elf
Dd17 has to take iron. The doctor said to take it with orange juice but she can't drink citrusy things because they make her mouth feel weird, so I gave her chewable Vitamin C. Is that okay? Also, can she take it at the same time as her multi-vitamin?
Pawz4me
If the multi-vitamin contains calcium then it would be best to take them a few hours apart. Calcium interferes with the body's ability to absorb iron.
medawyn
Iron makes me incredibly nauseous. If your daughter has a similar problem, I recommend taking it in the evening before bed. And not with any calcium filled products as pp mentioned.
xixstar
Yes, the Vit C supplement is a good substitute for the OJ. The iron I take has Vit C added for the same reason as I don't do juice either.
purplejackmama
I take Floradix. It's the best iron supplement I have found. It's liquid and needs refrigeration.
Tap
Yes she can take it with any source of vitamin c. She can take it with her multi vite, but it will Decrease her absorbson. Sometimes that is better than nothing though, if that is what works for her. To maximize the effectiveness take it at the same time as the vitamin c and away from other supplements. Night Elf
Thanks ladies. I'll check her multi-vitamin.
Seasider
Eggs also supposedly block iron absorption. I second near bedtime, but also eat a little something and wait about 30 minutes before lying down.
skimerinkydo
From the reading I've done - take the iron first thing in the morning with vitamin C, half an hour before eating breakfast. I take Solgar gentle Iron, the form is supposed to be absorbed well. I haven't tried the floradix.
lailasmum
There's a liquid iron brand here that comes mixed with apple juice. Could apple juice work for her? Things I read also pointed to it being best taking iron away from multivitamins because some things block it. Made me wonder if the iron in multi vitamins gets absorbed.
