Laura Corin
Here's the list and here's the methodology. The ranking is for academic and teaching reputation.
plansrme
Go Georgia Tech! Pardon me while I gloat about my daughter's doing two years of dual enrollment at the 48th best university in the world. For free. I am not a Georgia native, but I have to say, it has been good to us. Eta: 49th.
FaithManor
Well, dd's alma mater and ds's choice is number 19. I am not always convinced that these kinds of rankings are very accurate, but hey, I guess he should be proud to be a Wolverine. Meanwhile my Spartanness (not my Alma Mater however) sucks her thumb ranked somewhere in the 70's. Sniff, Sniff! :D

TravelingChris
Well dh and My alma mater is listed rather highly but this list is very strange in my view. It must have a lot of medical researchers as raters and probably some other strange aspects too. For example, if University of VA isn't rated- I would guess that it is because its best areas of rating would not be things that international raters would know about- the Law School is very highly rated but that is a USA thing. ALso I think their government or political science department may be higher rated but again, that will have a lot less of the internationals knowing about that. Yes, the methodology shows the problems with the study- It is useful in some cases but not in many others. The questionnaire is in 15 languages and restricted to academics who teach and publish. Brad S
I didn't study the methodology closely, but it asks published scholars only and appears more geared toward graduate education ranking. Also note that 33% of those questioned were from Asia/Pacific region, 28% Western Europe, 18% North America, etc. It doesn't necessarily seem more flawed than some of the other general rankings, but it's just one small piece of the puzzle. plansrme
Just another shout-out for Tech, which comes in at #11 in engineering and tech, when you pull out all those silly warm fuzzy fields. Like the humanities and art. :tongue_smilie:
