lewelma
Given that it is about the French Revolution, I just wanted to make sure that it was not full of yucky stuff. I'm hoping it is a good fun adventure story. Opinions? Ruth in NZ
maize
It's a great read, I would give it to my 10 year old. There may be some slightly gory bits about the guillotine, but unless the child is super sensitive to mentions of blood I wouldn't worry. I tend to really dislike gore and I don't remember it bothering me.
AdventuresinHomeschooling
The book or film? I have only seen the film with Jane Seymour, and I think it would be ok for a 10 year old. I don't know about the book.
RootAnn
My dd#2 said it should be ok. She listened to the audiobook within the last year. (We love the movie. :lurk5: )
Chrysalis Academy
I think it's great for him! It's a great read, and an interesting and suspenseful story. It's much less about the French Revolution itself than say Tale of Two Cities. Much of it takes place in England. I wouldn't worry. I'm trying to get Shannon to read it, it's on her stack as we speak. But guess what she's reading in her free time. . . again??? Yep, Harry Potter. :001_rolleyes: This is getting ridiculous!!! Tanaqui
Well, The Girl With the Silver Eyes reads it at that age, but she's precocious. There's not too much gore, though I think there's mentions of sex and there's definitely some crude anti-semitic stereotypes going on. lewelma
there's definitely some crude anti-semitic stereotypes going on. We are very aware of this in old books. Ivanhoe was particularly bad, and we spent a lot of time talking about it. Thanks for the heads up.
