sweetsouthern
im looking for an open and go writing curriculum (nothing online) for my 7th grade dd. I would like it if it covered a few different topics like book reports, 3 paragraph writing, small essay, etc. I don't mind grading the work, but she works so much better when its an actuall assignment from a book. I don't need it to cover grammar or mechanics or anything like that, just to cover who to improve writing and produce a few papers for her portfolio. any ideas? thanks! Danielle1746
I haven't used Jump In! yet, but I have it sitting on our bookshelf waiting to be used next year. I was hoping for the same things you are hoping for in a writing curriculum, so I am glad to see others recommend it. Thanks for posting! MeAndTheBoys
Wow--we're hoping to use that next year too, Jump In :) so glad to see it recommended! I'm also going to use this vintage resource: http://books.google.com/books?id=Ws8AAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false Betsy
Kelly1730
Well now, I "thought" I had my writing curriculum chosen for next year. This looks really good! Ugh!
momto2blessings
I was going to suggest Jump in, too:)
IfIOnly
OP, I'm looking, too. When searching the forum, I found that Wordsmith Apprentice was also recommended as an open and go writing curriculum. Has anyone used the Wordsmith series? http://www.amazon.com/Wordsmith-Apprentice-Excellence-Skill-Buidling-Exercises/dp/B000FIZTM6/ref=pd_sim_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1M3ANAJY99KQ5WZRV23W http://www.amazon.com/Wordsmith-Janie-B-Cheaney/dp/1929683189/ref=pd_sim_b_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=10580YYR3M5VRMRPM0HT http://www.amazon.com/Wordsmith-Craftsman-Grd-10/dp/1929683200/ref=pd_sim_b_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0H0892QMJT9KH9T7GFGY
IfIOnly
Oh, WS is also a Kathy Duffey top 100 pick. http://cathyduffyreviews.com/grammar-composition/Wordsmith-series.htm
SilverMoon
My 5th grader has had a great year with Wordsmith Apprentice this year, but I wouldn't use it with a 7th grader. Here's a thread with info on the 7th-8th grade level. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/500566-wordsmith-users/?do=findComment&comment=5414090

Reefgazer
MY DD uses WWS I with very little input from me, except for checking her work or when she needs assistance.
