  1. It's okay, a decent replacement for soy sauce. It did take me some time to adjust to the flavor though.
  2. I've been doing the uber frugal month too and that is helping me evaluate what goals we might have this year. Hopefully in the next few weeks my husband and I can get on the same page for financial goals. However, we are working on: -Emergency Fund- We are about 60% there and hope to be 100% by end of May. -Put another $2000 aside for house repairs that will be a must this summer- again hope to by end of May. -Vacation fund- Need more money so we can get out of here!! I will put in whatever I can when I can! In order for us to do these things I really feel like we need to be frugal as much as possible- but also not making my husband go insane!!
  3. North Dakota for Distance Education is NCAA approved and the families I know who use it like it. Some classes feel more rigorous than others but they can contact teachers fairly easy. I know a couple families who tried Nebraska and like North Dakota better, not really sure why though. I don't have much more information than that- my kids are back in school. Good luck!
  4. Yes and yes! In my cover letter, I highlighted my strengths and what I could offer to the position. And then hoped for the best! And it worked out.
  5. I like heavenlyhomemakers.com. Tons of recipes that are simple!
  6. We have found following the 50/30/20 budget guidelines the easiest to follow so far. Besides that, we do use credit cards for the majority of things. But, on pay days my husband takes out his allowance in cash and has that for 2 weeks. Since I do most of the shopping, etc. he just uses his for the times he forgets lunch, etc. He also does not carry his credit card with him- unless it is a day he needs to get gas. Otherwise his cc is at home. It took us awhile to figure out what works and what does not- but leaving the credit card or bank cards at home has worked. As others stated- meal planning and having emergency back up meals is important. One thing I heard of a mom doing is once she spends 75-85% of the grocery budget a month on credit card, she gets out the remaining 15-25% in cash in order not to overspend. I have not done that, but that is another idea to try. But overall it is will power to not overspend and stick with what you planned! Good luck!
  7. Yes, yes, yes! In 2 years my mom, myself as well as a sister have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Thyroid problems can run in families. I no longer eat gluten or dairy and it has helped me quite a bit but it is a good idea to know how your thyroid is functioning regardless.
  8. The only network I know that has that season is up tv.
  9. I enjoyed this show and house hunters, I am tired of all the flip or flop shows coming out...
  10. If you have a crock pot I like to use this website: newleafwellness.biz
  11. Our local high school requires biology and physical science and then a third science course. Freshman who enter who are going into algebra take physical science first, if they are entering going into pre-algebra they do biology first. Students can also choose the honors courses as well. So yes it can count!
  12. In a small outdoor storage room that is attached to the house.
  13. Thank you! He is participating in an activity now but that will end in a month, then his next one he is interested in will be in a few months. He can't switch classes right now as the school is overflowing. But, it does give us an idea for next year in regards to correct placement! I do like the suggestion of perhaps a job- maybe he could choose between a job or class depending how the year continues (or see if he can come up with something else). Thanks!
  14. I am just wondering if anyone does this? After years of home school we sent our kids to public school for various reasons. At the high school they do accept credits earned from an accredited institution. So, my son could take a class or two online- I am considering this because he has had minimal homework so far (it's been almost a month) and free up time in his junior/senior for what he is interested in. However, I am going to wait a couple more weeks before we start exploring our options to make sure he does not get overloaded. I am just curious if anyone does some sort of afterschooling at the high school level such as online classes or something else? Thanks!
  15. I think anything they do here is choice, but it can't be much. When I was in 8th grade we had to go on a 3 day survival camp, make shelter using tarps and had a small coffee can of food, etc.. Exotic, I know ðŸ˜
  16. My oldest who is 22 got a dumb phone around 12. She was flying to her visit her dad in the summers and she could check in with me during her layovers. We also only paid for it in the summers. When she was around 15 and was active in school events (she went to public school) her dad paid for her dumb phone. She got a smart phone from my family as her high school graduation gift. My other kids 14 and 12 don't have one. My 14 might get a dumb phone as he will be attending public high school next year and plans on participating in sports, etc. We can't afford smart phones and we have a land line so we will stick with the basics for now.
  17. I get ideas from here: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/ Hope that helps!
  18. I am just curious if any of your students taken online high school courses through these two less known providers? I know Bridgeway Academy has changed over the years and it seems like they offer a lot more, so I am wondering if anyone has more recent experience with them? I am just considering anything right now- any course! Thanks!
  19. I experienced that quite a bit several months ago and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. All my thyroid levels were within normal range, but I had several symptoms (such as yours, scary!) and have nodules growing so that's why it was caught. Otherwise my numbers were all 'within normal range'. I have made diet changes and will continue to do make other changes as needed and that has helped me so far, but I am okay with small steps to make big changes. I like the thyroid pharmacist and other thyroid websites, very informative! Sorry if I missed it, but did you get your thyroid antibodies checked? That was another part of my diagnosis. Good luck!
  20. Does she share with families skills they are working on, but not specific assignments? Do you think she would share that? And perhaps what he needs to work on? To me it seems that is a reasonable request to know.
