Annie
I've been looking around, but I'm hoping someone can just tell me what to buy. :) Do I want wood or plastic? We generally gravitate towards wood, but plastic would be fine if they're better. How many do I want? My first is almost four, so these will get lots of use over multiple children. Which do I want? Where do I buy from? I'm new to this buying homeschool supplies thing. :-)
Rosie_0801
Either wood or plastic are fine. You want a big set. :p A piddly box of 126 pieces will barely see you through preschool.
craftyerin
We much prefer the wooden ones. I use them with 3 kids and we have two small group sets. carriede
Wood.
shawthorne44
We have the plastic and I wish we had wood. The sides bulge a bit. So, if you put 10 rods side-to-side, it is longer than a 10-rod. My 3-year-old noticed that within a half hour. Wish we'd read the Amazon reviews.
Annie
Two sets of small group wooden rods it is! Thank you!
mamamindy
We've liked plastic okay (since I do have some "mouthy" kids this has helped them from getting chewed up) but since starting multiplication I wish we had wood as well. My mom actually pulled some that she had out of her attic - wood, probably 25yrs old! - and they still look great! :)
OneStepAtATime
My mom did the same thing as mamamindy, pulled out her really old rods (box is dated from her teacher training years in the '60's) and they are still in excellent shape. All wood and still beautiful. My DD especially prefers the feel of wood as opposed to the plastic ones....
