If you use teacher discounts - questions

I just found a list of resources and discounts for teachers and homeschool families.  If you use discounts like these, how does it work?  Do you ask for a discount card?  Is there any way to know which of these are available to home educators and which aren't?  What are some of the stores where you regularly use the discounts?

Thanks!

In our town, Office Max gave me a teacher Rewards card as a home schooler. We've used the home schooler discount for Apple computers. Jo Ann Fabrics will not give me a discount--school teachers only (at least in our town).

Joann's teacher rewards card come from the national headquarters. You sign up online. The local stores have no say.

I get my Joann's card every year at the store's customer service desk. You just have to show a teacher's id. I use my HSLDA card and my local homeschool group issues homeschool teacher's cards (or you can make your own).

My Joann's at first said " no you have to have xx card (teacher union)"  and I asked for the manager politely as that is not what the website says, and told them I am a private school teacher, no unions, and they gave me a card( in CA we are private schools, no "home schools" here really). He did not even realize that the card they were asking for was a union card, so he thanked me for educating him and said from now on he would ask for "school id".

Also apply online and print it out and then take it in with your school id (I made one and laminated).

Does barnes and noble work on nook books as well??? I need to get one of those if it does :)

In my state, we have to file a Declaration of Intent to homeschool form every year.  I ask the store if they offer teacher discounts and if homeschoolers qualify, using my form as proof.   They either accept the form, or they issue their own card.

I got my JoAnn's teacher discount by applying for it online, since that is what they require.
