The Planets by Dava Sobel - this is an amazing book, melding science and mythology in describing the planets of the solar system. I was completely mesmerized by it when I listened to the audio book!

George's Secret Key to the Universe - written by Lucy Hawking to explain her dad's work to her 9 year old - sounds perfect!

:iagree: Love these!

We have also had fun with this book. We got it at the Neil Armstrong museum, but it looks like you can get a good price on Amazon.

Wow, we are reading this next! Thanks!

Also, we've read:

Along Came Galileo (of course) :tongue_smilie:

Nicolaus Copernicus: The Earth is a Planet

Archimedes and the Door of Science (this was a bridge from physics to astronomy for us)

Horrible Science: Space, Stars and Slimy Aliens (um, not exactly classical literature, but my son liked it)

Both Janice Van Cleave books: Astronomy Experiments and Constellations (my kids did this entirely on their own)

Our library had a ton of books, so we have just been checking out whatever we find.

I know you're looking for books, but can you get apps on your phone? We bought Night Sky. You go outside when it's dark, point your phone at the sky and it shows you a star chart - identifying the stars you're pointing to, the surrounding constellations and any planets.
