dcjlkplus3
I am looking for a 18 week (or so) Earth Science curriculum for my second grader. I don't think I just want to wing it for science like we did last year. Any ideas?? Jenny
bethben
What about doing 1/2 of the lesson plan Jessica at www.triviumacademy.blogspot.com has developed. I think it lasts about 18 weeks. She has lots of good recommendations for books and videos each week and has co-ordinated the experiments to go with each week. You can get the plan here: www.lulu.com/content/1026490. Chris in VA
I second Triv's plans. You can pick and choose in her plan, so it's very convenient. Cheap, too, for the amt of work she put into it!
elegantlion
Here's another option. http://www.achildsgeography.com/ It is labeled as a geography, but is truly more of an earth science course. I think it would be wonderful for 2nd grade. It is christian based, just FYI.

There is a Hands-On Earth Model book which is pretty cool as well.
LanaTron
I saw this at a convention in June, and thought it looked pretty good. Here is their website: Ring of Fire
chanda7
This isn't a curriculum in itself, but you might enjoy earthcaching (www.earthcache.org) as a fun and "hands-on" supplement your study. If you download the Excel database, it will tell you the classification of each cache (igneous, sedimentary, water feature, cave, etc.). The individual cache pages are usually very impressive on the geology/geography they teach. We're also planning to do some recreational mining and fossil hunting. This is going to be a fun semester :)
Tami
My absolute favorite curriculum for that age is ScienceWorks by Evan Moor. You can go to the EM website and view the whole books! Try ScienceWorks Geology and ScienceWorks Space. These would fit your requirements for time, as well as being age-appropriate and easy to teach! dcjlkplus3
Okay, after talking to my husband, we decided to order R.E.A.L. Science Earth and Space level 1. Thank you for all of your help, I had no idea where to start.
