RoughCollie
I like Real Science 4 Kids, but I broke down and bought an actual general science textbook after awhile so if the kids ever went to a school-school, they would have the overview. http://www.arn.org/realscience/realscience.html http://gravitaspublications.com/ (Why 2 websites? I don't know!) I've also used the suggestions in TWTM quite a lot.

Lori D.
Maybe pick an overall "theme" for the year, like physics, and spend a month on the topic with a good kit, books from the library, and any videos/DVDs from the library -- or programs from United Streaming -- to go along with. Below are some physics ideas to get you started. Enjoy! Warmest regards, Lori D. 1. Magnetism - Book: "Usborne Understanding Science: Electricity and Magnetism" - Kit with the 3 main types of magnets (horseshoe, bar, ring), and iron fillings. - Kit: Adventures in Magnetism (Educational Insights Company) 2. Electricity - Book: "Usborne Understanding Science: Electricity and Magnetism" - Adventures - Kit: Adventures in Electricity (Educational Insights Company) 3. Simple Machines (Gear, Level, Pulley, Screw, Inclined Plane, Etc.) - Book: David MacCauley's "The Way Things Work" (*ideal* for this age!) 4. Constructing/Building - Video/DVD: David MacCauley's "Building Big" series (Dome, Skyscraper, Tunnel, etc.) - Video/DVD: David MacCauley's series on "Pyramid", "Roman City", "Cathedral" 5. Forces, Gravity, Friction 6. Light/Optics/Optical Illusions - Book: "Super Science: Light & Color" (comes with kit items) - Google search: opitical illusions, or check out books from the library. 7. Sound 8. Flight 9. Rocketry
Kissy
Here is a link where you can buy kits for science. I think that would be great for 4th grade. http://www.hometrainingtools.com/catalog/science-by-grade-level/cat_elementary-science-for-grades-3-5.html

Krista in LA
Next year my fourth grader will be using Singapore My Pal's are Here Science grade 4. This is what we are using this year for 4th grade. It's our first year with it and I really like it because it is very simple and straight forward. I hate doing labs and I don't have to with this if I don't want to. The book presents things in small pieces and the workbook is great. We do the activities most of the time because they are pretty simple, but we have skipped a few if we didn't have things on hand for it or it didn't appeal to us. I'll be getting it again for 5th grade.
Lux Et Veritas Academy
I love Scott Foresman combined with United Streaming ;)
Melissa in CA
Have you looked into NOEO science? They have a Classical/Charlotte Mason approach to science. They offer Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. If you click on the "curriculum design" link you will find grade levels, etc. http://www.noeoscience.com
5wolfcubs
If you want to do Chemistry for half the year, we're enjoying "The Elements: Ingredients of the Universe" by Ellen McHenry. I ordered it from Rainbow Resource.
mcconnellboys
I love this too and we used it last year! I plan on using her organic chemistry book next time around, Regena
Susie in CA
I just purchased the Physics Science in a Nutshell Clusters. They look fantastic. This will be our program for the year with a few other books and projects thrown in. Susie
Kate in Arabia
This year with my 4th grader we're using RS4K Physics as our "spine"; I have three Science in a Nutshell kits and Snap Circuits that we've used to expand on the topics covered in RS4K.
