naturally
Do you brown the meat first or put it in the peppers uncooked?
Chocolate Rose
I've always cooked everything before putting it in the peppers - meat and rice.
momto10blessings
I do not cook first, but in my recipe you put the stuffed peppers in a pot and cover with tomato sauce to cook
Myeightkiddies
I brown the meat. If I didn't, it would be way too greasy.
Lady Florida.
I do not cook first, but in my recipe you put the stuffed peppers in a pot and cover with tomato sauce to cook That's how my mother made them. They were never greasy because she always used lean ground beef. I don't make them because I'm the only one in our house who likes them, but I do miss having them. Chris in VA
I thoroughly cook the meat and rice mixture, then put it in peppers that I've prepared in the Microwave and pour slightly less diluted tomato soup over it. Sometimes I let it cook in the oven a bit after that. Probably not the "best" way to make it, but good enough for us. :001_smile:
justLisa
I use a recipe from Cooks Illustrated. I cook the meat AND steam par boil the peppers for a few minutes to take the raw edge off.
Pegasus
Raw meat and uncooked minute rice is how my mom always made them.
LaxMom
I cook the filling before stuffing. Mmmmmmm. I haven't made stuffed peppers for a LONG time. We'll be having those this week, for sure! Thanks for the reminder! :D
Sumiller
I use leftover cooked rice. I parboil the peppers for 5min. I never precook the ground beef but I do use 93% lean and they've never turned out greasy. I also top the peppers with a tomato sauce before baking for an hour. :001_smile: Oh, I also have a digital meat thermometer so I can temp the peppers to know that the beef is really done. Momma4Boys
I use my crock pot and they come out fabulous! Raw meat, raw peppers and uncooked rice - couldn't be easier. I do not cover mine in sauce (altho you could) I pour water up the sides of the peppers until about 1/4 way up.
