What to see in Southern MN, Northern IA & NorthWestern IL?

Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota is interesting:

The town of Pipestone is really cute too (neat historic buildings):

Our kids always loved climbing around in Fort Pipestone. (I found a personal travel blog that shows a photo and talks about it):

Dubuque, Iowa has a museum of the Mississippi, http://www.mississippirivermuseum.com/

also a very cool little railway that goes up a very steep hill http://www.dbq.com/fenplco/

Across the river in Illinois is Galena - just walking the old streets is fun, and be sure to check out the spooky old graveyard at the top of the hill.

Rockford, IL has a very good kids museum (Discovery Center I think it is called ) with interactive stuff and a cool outdoor climbing attraction. It is next to a small museum that has a dinosaur or two, too.

Walnut Grove? How far west do you come? Sioux Falls is, obviously, in SD, but the falls are very pretty and fun for kids to climb on. They aren't *spectacular, but they are fun.

We went to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove a few years ago. The kids liked it. Our girls would have played in that kitchen all day. On our next road trip we want to go back and this time also go out to the original homesite on Plum Creek.

We went on a warm day. The kids took off their socks and shoes and played in the creek in front of the dugout. The kids also liked the general store. Ds7 was placing his order and saw some canned milk with a picture of a cow on the front. He requested "cow beans". He was talking funny anyhow. It was hilarious.
